I agree. Animals' first concern, I believe, is survival. When they face something unknown, they first observe from safe distance. When something unknown comes closer, they retreat to keep distance. Biting and fighting, taking risk, should be their last alternative when all other ways are shut. So we have to be very careful not to let them feel cornered particularly under captive circumstances with limited freedom. And when they learn that we do not mean any harm, distance can be shortened peacefully. Then comes a next stage to build trust.

I was worried at that time as I came across some statistical data saying that more than 40 percent of zoo born sand cat babies died within 30 days mainly because of abandoned childcare by stressed females. Luckily even during pregnancy Meg the first time mom accepted me being around and raised 3 kittens successfully in front of me, which I filmed and share in my channel. She is now in a larger space and still comes close to be stroked when she sees me. 3 kittens are all healthy and active.

Thanks for your caring comment. Sand cats are subject to protection under CITES as Appendix II, and only limited numbers within the annual quota can be exported/imported among the countries that ratify the CITES treaty. We imported them via U.S.A. with CITES permit. We wanted to add sand cats to our animals for exhibition so that we can let many people appreciate and fall in love with many attractive animals, our co-habitant on earth. Of course, this is human side of story. And for the sand cats who were taken away from their natural habitat, which unfortunately is also jeopardized by us humans, we have to try our best to minimize their stress under captivity in smaller enclosure. I know there are many people who argue that this is not the best way, but I can only do what I believe with comliance.

One of the problems with their habitat is that it’s kinda crumbling, or in a practical war zone or they’re getting shot, or getting stuck in fences, he is doing this to help them not go extinct rather them letting it happen

well... these animals are very rare and wild... how they arrive so far from their habitat; something so different like japan? why are u trying to tame such a kind of feline?

Thank you very much for your considerate comment. Allow me to repeat my former reply to a similar question: Thanks for your caring comment. I know there are many people who argue that this is not the best way, but I can only do what I believe with compliance.

@@user-bl9zh1qn5f Legal doesn´t mean good. Many people will see the cute cats and want to have them too. Your opinion seems stupid to me. Sorry, but just let wild animals live in there natural habitat. Sand cats belong to the few wild species, that have not been exploited by human beeing.

@@ladyfreybier5774 I respect your opinion. When you say ' Legal doesn't mean good.' I can't argue back as guns are allowed in U.S.A. while they are not in Japan. But I dare not call people with different opinion 'stupid'. People have different values, religious beliefs, likes and dislikes, cultures and so on. You might have chosen the word 'stupid' , maybe because you didn't see any malicious intention against animals including humans in what we are doing.

@@user-bl9zh1qn5f I don´t call you stupid. I call your argumentation dubious and implausible.(=stupid) And it´s striking, that you don´t answer to the point Carla C. Leon has made. (You don´t respond to my argumentation either) It seems, like you just repeat a text you have copied. So would you be so kind and explain why you took these animals to japan? I am studying biology and in my opinion there is no plausible reason to take the wild cats out of there habitat.

If they owned a zoo, they should know they need to be in an environmently controlled enclosure, especially in an inappropriate environment like Japan. And they would keep their germ covered hands out of the cat's face.

I hate that people always have to take animals from their natural habitat! It's CRUEL. I don't CARE what the reason is, unless they are rescue cats, which I doubt after reading these comments... People only care about the cuteness and having rare animals, not their wellbeing... it's actually disgusting.
