Yeah. Brushed systems are certainly lighter. Brushless needs less tuning & maintenance hence I went that way. As a purist I would have to track down a Dynatech 01 or 02 to keep this period specific. It’s cool both ways though, no right no wrong.

Great car - ruined by the gigantic price tag. More than a Kyosho Legend Series car by $200!! I cannot justify spending that much on one, even a Black series. Cheapest Ive seen is $714 here in Australia, then postage on top of that. My DB01RRR wasnt even that much. Anyway - still a great car to have, but will have to pass on this one this time.

Yeah… I feel for you. It doesn’t help when Aust & NZ currency drops and it cost more for postage there. Still keep a lookout as there might be second production runs and there are sales of these leftover kits later on at the end of shelf life. This is what’s happening to the Top Force Evo.

The prop shaft you said was oxidised was meant to be like that so the 1-way bearing can grip when it's locking, that's not a mistake in manufacturing, it's meant to have a rough surface, by polishing you will likely now get slip under power.

Two Things ... Why are Tamiya putting plastic Parts like Diff Teeth Wheels and simple bearing balls into that kit? If it’s a Competition Racing Kit ... those things breaking first during race or after a few battery packs uses. But lucky they put not those old ecu / esc .. drive direction unit in the kit (mechanical thing ... users from 80&90 ... knows what i mean 😂) smoking times and next visit by a rc dealer to buying a electronic non mechanical dives.
@t-studioworks

It has to be put into context that the rerelease is true to the original that was released in 1989 without high power lipos and brushless motors. Adding steel gear diffs would only have increased weight which would have further disadvantaged this over engineered marvel. The original Egress didn’t come with the typical Tamiya mechanical speed controller of that era either because it was expected that racers would customize with their own esc. I grew up in that era and always yearned for more power & speed of an esc limited by budget. Looking back now it was a necessary evil to lower the cost & make RC more accessible. Besides that, these days the first iconic RC cars complete with the mechanical esc are now highly sought after collectibles.

You are the 1st person that’s said that. Most don’t like the painted body kits because they want to customise their cars. Absolutely stunning video and build.💯👍👌 I am getting my egress black edition this Friday 9 December 2022 but am a little intimidated after seeing your video as I'm not such a great model builder like you and it just looks intimidating to me.ive also been looking at Schumacher Pro cat and that looks like a difficult build as well.these two cars are so special I can't afford to mess up the building of them. I wouldn't forgive myself. Any way top video and so skilled you sir are a legend and I would like to meet and know you to learn from you. I don't know if that will ever happen as I live in Australia but you are an excellent model builder and I am in awe at your skills. Please also tell me the wet soap water technique for applying decals. I have heard it mentioned previously but this is the first time I have seen it performed. What's it about and how does it work?
@t-studioworks
Жыл бұрын
Thank you for the kind words. Glad you are getting the Egress BE this Friday. I’m sure you will enjoy the build. The Schumacher Procat also looks like an interesting design. The soapy water trick is easy. I too learnt it from others. Apply soapy water to body. Position the decal into the correct location before pressing down, squeezing out the water. Then heat with hairdryer & further press down stickers. Once you start & see how easy it is, you won’t do it any other way. I have a perfectionist tendency & find building quite intimidating too until i remind myself that it’s a hobby to be enjoyed and it doesn’t have to be perfect. Good luck with the builds & most importantly enjoy yourself. 😊

My step father and I bought a Preying Mantis in the 80’s while in Taiwan,and we built it together. I see Tamiya released a retro version of the “US GrassHopper” which was the YS version of our car! It had a Mobster engine that his Autistic friend from work did a bunch of stuff to and had this RC hitting 60mph in 1985-91 which blew us away! We track raced it together and later in the 2000’s with my Hpi street cars i could see he really enjoyed it still. Should i buy a retro Grass Hopper or retro Hornet for him now he’s in his 70’s? They still the same as the original ones? Thanks,i really appreciate it!
@t-studioworks
Жыл бұрын
Firstly it’s heartwarming to hear about you spending time with your stepfather. It’s a hoot to hear about someone copying the Grasshopper & calling it Praying Mantis. Lol… classic. The concept of the original Grass Hopper & Hornet hasn’t changed in later releases. I prefer the mechanicals of the Hornet with its bigger 540 motor, slightly more complicated rear axle & rear oil filled dampers. But I also prefer the old school plastic Grass Hopper body versus polycarbonate Hornet body. Why not buy both and build both together with your stepfather? After that go for a good old bash in the backyard. It will be lots of fun. My humble opinion only. 😊

Unfortunately the reasons to not buy one goes on & on when you compare it to a modern day buggy. For many of us, it’s a small (happy) price to pay for that piece of nostalgia as it was something that we couldn’t afford back when the top of the line Egress came out. I’m certainly happier & now lucky enough in being able to afford & build it. Plus it looks fantastic on my display case. Hence I’m also thankful Tamiya rereleased this special version. 😊

It’s got nostalgic value for many that started with Tamiya or for most of us that could not afford our dream cars during the golden period of RC in 80s & 90s. The Egress was perhaps at the top of the list in terms of desirability irregardless of how it ran at that time as this design first came out in 1989 with that sweeping body, carbon fibre & all that adjustability. Hence the positive response from many on this reworked rerelease of the Egress.

Just trying to figure out why that’s the case. It’s got carbon fibre, universals, roll bars, ball bearings etc. Maybe it’s the amount & type of plastics? One has to remember though that this design & materials comes directly from 1989 & really can’t compare with today’s top end racing buggy. My humble opinion only. 😊
