I watch a lot of these videos for some reason. These ship engine rooms remind me of the basement of Science A on the University of Calgary campus, which is the only accessible part of the utility tunnels. I like the sound of those huge 2-stroke Diesels.

Those MAN B&W generators bring back some BAAAAD memories... To this day I have dreams of broken tappet blocks, failed cam followers and broken fuel lines spraying IFO 380 everywhere.

FlatBroke612 depends who made those man b&w engines. if they were made by chinese...yep... if they were made by koreans... those are actually not that bad.

Its good housekeeping because of ratings... Mostly engineers are lazy to clean the mess of their own work... Its useless being an engineer when just proud of that title.

back in the day my father was an electrical engineer 4 China Bear lines. When they were in Port he would take me down into the engine room that was back in the mid-to-late sixties when I guess you could still bring your kids aboard LOL I wonder if China bear Freight Lines still around

It's very interesting. But it'll be great if you could add captions or narration to educate non-seafarer viewers like me. What are those engines, tanks, tubes etc. and their purposes? I'm curious to know how this huge structure sail across the ocean.

quietnongprue. The steel floats because it weighs less than the water it displaces, fuel filters are kept maticulously cleaned and changed where needed and they don't sail into typhoons/hurricanes needlessly. Good ships officers and a well paid crew with a mega corporation add to the odds in her favor as well.

This would have been an excellent video rather than just a good video; if time had been taken to focus in and pause on stenciled equipment names and where there was no stenciling; annotating the video would have been useful.. I am an ex Marine Engineer and could take an educated guess what each piece of equipment was; from waste heat exchanger (WHE) through Staring Air Compressors & Receivers etc etc.
