Fantastic Vid-great to get some real opinions on beer kits, so we dont waste time with bad ones. Also really looking forward next experiment results with lager yeast at different temps. Also interesting that the blue mountain with lager yeast being under pressure didnt help-- raises questions about all the u-tubers saying under pressure allows u to brew at higher temps or maybe this is only applicable to other beer styles -great work -keep them coming

Onya mate - no bull shit from little john, props to re-doing the video. Having tasted the lager experiments i won from the little john patreon prize, and tasted the difference for my self (even tho you couldn't tell either tasted like a kit base!) , the lager at the correct temp was the clear winner. Lager yeast at lager temps.

Howdy LJ, I've been home brewing for 20yrs but I've been learning a lot from your videos and greatly appreciate them. I'm over 60 and not good on computers and would like to contribute a once off payment because I would like to watch more of your video's without feely guilty because I'm not a Patreon, Is there a way that I can do that. Keep up the great work, I'm still enjoying them even though I'm doing all grain mainly at the minute.

mate no need for any payment.... patreon is there for those who want to use it. Some folks have sent me stuff, like kits for extractaganza or yeast instead of the monthly hit..... all contributions accepted, my adress is on the facebook page if you want it. But a one off payment is a little tricky ATM, I would need to setup Donations within KZitem, which I could do but was trying to keep cash support to one avenue.

Little John, P.O.R. is getting harder and harder to get here in the states.. If I have to switch to another aussie hop, what should I choose?

harder to get here too.... main commercial users have pulled it out. Try for Super Pride or Topaz as a back up.

I'll have another go at the Blue Mountain and try the Us-05. Will be making a Mangrove Jacks Munich Lager later this week but at Ale temp. Works out fine.

Interesting vid. I have a Golden Crown on the go now. But I'm using a Kveik yeast. This is day 3 and yes it's bottling day. I just had a taste from the hydrometer tube and tasted nothing but a crisp, bitter North German style lager. No weird flavours and I was looking for them as its my first time using this yeast and brewing at over 30c. It should be carbed and drinkable by Saturday so I should know for sure by then.

I think the Kviek will hide some sins..... but for me it just adds more..... but if it work for you, well and good mate.

@@littlejohnsbrewing9199 Well its a damn nice beer now its had some time. I used the Voss strain of Kveik which gives off lemony esters. Basically I turned the lager into a pale ale lol. But a very nice beer. I've another Kveik on the go now with Morgan's Australian Draught but using the Oslo strain which I believe is better suited to lagers as it produces no flavours and is very clean.

I'm keen to try the Oslo myself after having some nice beers brewed with it.

I’m interested in giving the blue mountain a go, i keg however so how long do you think it would need to sit conditioning in the keg before i was drinking nicely? i’ve only got one keg of beer left at the moment and if i have to wait 6 weeks i’ll run out 😂
@littlejohnsbrewing9199

It's a kit beer.... it will benefit from conditioning time. You can drink it once carbed if you want, but would suggest that a few weeks at least. If you are able to do pressure, you may get away with 2-3 weeks... end of the day it will come down to you and how long is accepted for your taste.

@@littlejohnsbrewing9199 thanks mate, i’ve just started all grain but finding the time to set aside 4hrs for a brew is hard to do as often as i’d like

Good stuff LJ I really do like your passionate views after a couple of beers ahaha and I think your right I brewed a golden crown and I drank it but it was very “kit” flavoured I thought I brew a fair few kits for the father or to fill the gaps and I’m very much stuck on the Morgan’s range I think they do a pretty good tin. So now why not brew something similar again but with only US05 one under pressure one not? I’m still torn on the pressure ferment. Cheers LJ keep it up

I'm going to do something along those pressure/no pressure lines. Got a mountain of options I plan to play with going forward..... I have a considerable 'to do on video' list.

Interesting results. US-05 is a good all-round standby yeast. Have you considered trying split batches using liquid yeasts and dry yeast-say, WLP-001 and US-05 or something similar?
@littlejohnsbrewing9199

yes I certainly have. I've done a few dry vs dry yeasts, but haven't pulled a full dry vs yeast experiment..... haven't had the space to do properly... or often not had the yeast planned well enough in advance. One day will happen....

Let me say it as good as or even better than a lot of brewers all grain beers..... and better than a lot of commercial brewers aussie style lagers.....
