You valve clearance specs appear to be flipped. Shouldn’t the exhaust clearance be .23 and in take .08?

Hi there, nice one. You probably got the same comment by other viewers but at 0:55s the overlay text on the valve clearances are inverted: intake should be between .08 and .1 and exhaust between .23 and .25, in a nutshell the same values as for the factory camshaft.

That's how I do it with the TEC camshaft. 0.09 inlet, 0.20 outlet. No problems for 15,000 km. When the engine is worn out I will install a big bore kit. It's not all that expensive. Have fun with your REH, greetings

I sure did not get that impression at all. I do also have the fuel x pro. Maybe that makes a difference. It is recommended by Tec bike parts where I got the cam. I’m curious now

@@swcoloradoadventures Perhaps Fuel X Pro can assist in managing it by providing a slightly richer fuel mixture. I assume that you are currently running at map 7 or 8.

I was noticing that without a cam and FuelX and a 16 tooth sprocket (mine is all stock) my bike does about 5000rpm at 100kmph or a little under 65mph. And it has no problem with hills either, and I live in the Andes in Colombia. And then it dawned on me that you said you were at 6,000ft elevation. I am only at 3.000ft. My average temperature is also in the high 70's which means I will enjoy more oxygen than your 90 degree temp. The rule of thumb is that you lose about a 3 percent hp per thousand feet due to less oxygen to burn. That means my stock bike is running close to 10 percent more horsepower than you would be stock, and of course 10 percent less than a person at sea level. That is why small aircraft such as a Cessna 150 has a service ceiling of 12,650 to 15,300 depending on the model. Because of this they are not able to cross many of our 16,000ft mountains in Colombia so you see few of them down here. The problem is weight and that nasty 3 percent loss of hp as you climb in altitude. So it is something to consider when watching vids of mods on other people's bikes, and on dyno testing. The question always has to be taken into consideration as to altitude, air temperature, barometric pressure and relative humidity. I had a Ninja running velocity stacks when living in southern MD which is close to sea level. The velocity stacks eliminate the air box making the bike sensitive to temperature, relative humidity and barometric pressure. Every change of seasons I was rejetting the carbs in order to maintain performance. So basically your results are only really going to be relevant to a person from your local area. A person at lower elevations will have more power and better performance with the same mods because the extra oxygen is what the mods such as the cam and FuelX pro are designed to produce and take advantage of. Sorry for the bad news. You might want to consider water injection as is used on aircraft. It is a cheap and effective way of boosting horsepower at altitude. H2O (oxygen) That is why my Himmy runs better on cool humid days.

Hello there! Thanks for the thoughtful reply. I am no engineer at all, so, all I can really do is judge based off of relative performance before and after within the same conditions. I imagine fuel injection helps to compensate for some of the drawbacks to regional setup like I have had on my carbureted bikes in the past. But, the only thing I am concerned with is increasing the ooomph on my hills. I have decided that upping the fuel map to the max has improved performance. That may just be getting the engine to a place it could have been prior to emission regulation but not real sure. The backside test is the only real measure I have. And its all relative. @@swcoloradoadventures Funny, I think the same when I watch your vids. What a great place to ride with so many open areas. We are in Colombia which can be pretty dangerous when you venture off road. Drug cartels, stealing motorcycles as well as kidnapping for ransom are all potential dangers. It is the wild west in many ways still, although not as exciting as it was back in the 90's when I was in the Corps as Counter Intel doing drug interdiction and such, but I still try to keep a low profile. That is why I ride a Himalayan and not a V-Strom 650. I understand the power thing you are after. And what you say is true, the upgrades should help you gain back some of the power lost from being in your high altitude. But in the end, low oxygen is going to limit any gains you can squeeze out of the bike. My personal challenge is trying to get my bike from stalling nearly every time it gets anywhere close to idle. That problem has stopped me from tractoring the bike on trails. Imagine tractoring through mud and steep muddy trails in the Andes with a steep mountain drop offs and the bike stalls over and over again, dumping you to the ground. I should probably make vids on KZitem of me doing it and then RE would possibly take more interest in helping us to fix the problem. Nothing like the bad publicity of seeing their bike fall over in mud over and over due to their stalling defect. It is a pretty common problem as well. But to help address that problem I am adding the FuelX pro mod. I am ordering it from the States and having it brought down in a few weeks. We will see if the stalling problem improves. Nothing else has worked so I am not holding my breath.

@@danielben-avraham1539 Good luck with the low speed thing. I think the FUelx helped a bit. I also increased the rpm a few hundred to help but it does not sound like my issue was quite as bad. Maybe decreasing the front sprocket to increase the rpm at low speed? Who knows? I am still constantly tinkering. I am going to install a 14 tooth sprocket this week to test out as well. I will even make a little video even though its pretty simple. And, you're right. No drug cartels here thankfully. Though a low profile never hurt anyone. Thanks again!

@@swcoloradoadventures Where do you guys get the Himmy sprockets at? I would like to make my bike a little more highway friendly by dropping the revs by 500rpm. The stalling only effects the bike when I slow down, so ride it like you stole it I guess. My idle is set to 1,300 which is what recommended and I have had it at 1,400 and it still stalls so I dropped it back to where it is. I always hear a popping sound in the engine just as the bike dies. It makes me wonder if the problem is not mechanical in nature, like the centrifugal decompressor unit on the cam malfunctioning and kicking it as the engine reduces rpm. Suddenly losing compression would kill the engine for sure. Some people say that the TEC cam rid them of the stalling, so that might be next on my list. As far as buying sprockets, I do have Amazon down here with free shipping as well. They are world wide so it might be a good stock to invest in with the US economy looking a little sickly. Don't have any personally as of yet, but just an observation.

@@danielben-avraham1539 I bought one from Amazon, wrong patter for the spline. I ended up going with Hitchcock's in the UK because I was confident they would fit and I was right. The 16 tooth does help on the highway for sure. I did a video on that one as well right after the tec cam review. Not good for my trails though. Super steep in some cases.

I really wouldn't set the exhaust to 0.23. I set it no bigger than 0.2 even though 0.23 is the factory recommendation. I've heard of a number of people having damaged exhaust valves (pitting in the top of the valve stem) precisely because of the hammering it gets with that huge gap. But I'm no expert. Just looking for as much objective information as possible!!

Hello there! I had to add my email to the waitlist, then email their info line when it was in. Then they made a PayPal invoice for me that I paid. It’s a little convoluted but it eventually worked. That was when they were out of stock most of the time. Should be easier now. Good luck!

I have the tec cam on mine and theres no way one could tell the difference going as slow as you are here! The cam does improve the engine but its barely noticeable and I see a lot of people do the cam then install a 16 tooth front sprocket, well why would you bother with the cam? One tooth different front sprocket equals 300 revs quick is bugger all but its bugger all in the wrong direction as these need all the torque they can get. Turbo the damn thing.

After 4 years of riding, my Himalayan recalibrated the compass yesterday while I was out riding. It took 45 mins of spinning around and then all of a sudden, I had all 4 points of the compass working perfectly! Amazing stuff.

How long have you had the bike? Presumably it’s still under warranty. Are you worried about voiding your warranty by installing the cam?

Hey Richard! I’ve had it since last October. And for the warranty, well, I’m not too worried. I could change it back I suppose, but that wouldn’t be the most proper thing. @@swcoloradoadventures Thsnks for your reply. I’m doing my full licence course here in the UK next week, and assuming I pass, I hope to have my own Himalayan next Saturday. It’s a 2021 euro5 model so only one year left on the warranty anyway, so I plan to get the cam too, along with the DNA filter and the delkevic exhaust full system.
