love seeing your reactions to Karen. 75 yr old guy here. Baby boomer, I guess. I , like you, had & still have, similar reactions to her voice. The first seconds of her voice in any song, effect me, like you: THIS IS MOST BEAUTIFUL VOICE. I'VE EVER HEARD Unfortunately, different time back then; I would be and have been made fun of, because of saying she's the best ever. I wonder if we are weird people. But I'm happy. I am so glad you and hopefully others your age can appreciate Karen. Back in the 60's things were I guess different. Anyway, one song of hers I am not sure if you have listened to is " Don't Cry for me Argentina". . Look at history of where this song comes from.

So nice to see such a wonderful reaction by you young man! Was fortunate to grow up with Carpenters timeless music. 50 years later and Karen's ANGELIC voice still touches my soul Every time. Have to fight back the tears. Sorrowful day hearing of her death. So beautiful, so talented and so young. So sad! Watching her slow decline was hard. Wish she had realized how beautiful and loved she was!

"Superstar" has become something of a legendary recording for Carpenters fans. Although the song had been performed and recorded by other artists (including original artist, Delaney and Bonnie), it had not become a hit yet in early 1971. Richard Carpenter first took note of it when watching Bette Midler perform the song on the Tonight Show with Johnny Carson that winter. Thinking it could be a good fit for Karen's voice, he decided to work up an arrangement. The resulting studio recording uses Karen's work lead, that is, the first time she laid down her vocals on a guide track for the backup musicians, reading the lyrics off a napkin. Her first effort was so good that they kept it for the final recording. "Superstar" became the Carpenters' sixth single and fifth consecutive million-seller, released in late summer 1971 and peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 that fall. Backed by "Bless the Beasts and Children" on the B-side, which garnered airplay on its own after "Superstar" peaked, the single lingered on the charts into early 1972, becoming the duo's longest-charting 45. The recording remains one of their most-admired single releases. This video, recorded while the Carpenters were appearing in Las Vegas (but not during one of their concerts) was one of two promotional videos the duo recorded in early April 1971 in the run-up to the release of their third LP, titled "Carpenters" (known to fans as "the Tan Album"). The other video recorded during the same filming session was for "Rainy Days and Mondays" (which preceded "Superstar" as the duo's fourth million-selling single). The audio for both videos was from the studio recordings, rather than from live performance. Look for the "Rainy Days and Mondays" video in one of your future reactions. It has become their most-watched video on KZitem.

Karen is the voice. This is coming from someone who never gave them a thought in the 70's. Today I can say Karen Carpenter is a voice I listen to everyday. Karen's voice has been determined by many as the most beautiful of all time, also a fantastic drummer, we all miss Karen deeply. There is no one on earth and there never will be anyone who can sing like Karen Carpenter. Karen was a real down to earth person. She is the whole package ! Beautiful , Talented and Personable. I would like to request "I Can Dream Can't I". Chase always love your Carpenter reactions. PTL.

The backing vocals was both of them. They recorded them, they also overdubbed their voices throughout the songs to make them fuller. Watch a video on how they recorded it is very interesting. thanks for listening to them.

I never get tired of listening to Karen and I continually come back and listen to the same songs over and over. My favorite is the Australia 1972 Live performance and especially when she gets behind the drums, wow such talent. I would venture to say that there has not been a talent like Karen with the voice and musician ability since she passed away. If there is someone then you could count them on one hand. Today's music does not come close to this talent, yes there are some great female voices out there but the sheer ability to sit down with the band and sing and play the instrument is simply not there. Karen and Richard were entertainers and they always delivered.

My favorite song was one that wasn't a single. (A Place to) Hideaway was off their self titled album. I was only 6 years old, and this was my first adult album I ever owned. I had 3 of their albums most of my life. The only albums I owned when I was young. But they were all I needed back then. Carpenters, Close to You, and A Song For You. I would later get The Singles album, but still, it was all I owned for a long time. I would later get John Denver and Olivia Newton-John; as these 3 artists would shape my life

Awesome reaction, Chase. This is one of her best, 1971. This was actually a lip sync. This track was done in one take. It started the legend of “one take Karen.” I started with Close To You when it was new, 1970. My request is also from 1970. It is a live performance. I’ve recommended it and have never seen the video disappear. Monitization is a different story but the reactions are still up and clean, nothing blocking the pictures. Same with Superstar, never seen it taken down or blocked. That said the video is crucial as we get to see Karen sing and drum simultaneously. It’s a joy. It’s the Bacharach/David Medley and was performed live on The Ed Sullivan Show saluting veterans. That’s the audience. If you haven’t seen this and it’s new to you. Sit down and brace yourself, it’s something else. Joe kzitem.info/news/bejne/2qip24B5f2t3p34si=qFvSJKAtAHSIWucc

I just found your channel; young man, and as someone who lived through that time, let me give you some insight. Music videos didn't happen until the late 70s. Many so- called live shows did lip singing because it was earlier and cheaper. So any of these posted videos of the Carpenters were either from live shows, talk or variety shows, or TV specials the studio did for them. But no official music videos

You might like 'The Babys" and "Pat Benetar" also from around the time the Carpenters were popular. Richard Carpenter was really upset they lost out to Andrea True's hit song More, More, More in the 1970's.

Can't be true since Karen never wrote the song. Songwriters were Leon Russell (writer of "Masquerade" and "A Song for you") and Bonnie Bramlett, and released in 1969 by the Bramletts as a B-side single. The song was originally called Groupie (Superstar) when released because it's about a female "groupie" of a famous singer/musician.
