Members of the Oregon National Guard set up temporary hospital beds in the Jackman Long building on the Oregon State Fairgrounds in Salem on March 19, 2020. The emergency hospital is a backup that will be used for people who test negative for coronavirus in the event that existing hospitals are overwhelmed with patients as the virus spreads. The equipment comes from Oregon Health Authority, and the National Guard's role is limited to setup. There are no plans for the Guard to provide medical support if and when the facility becomes active.
