Retaliation and discrimination happens a lot in senior housing. There's usually always the bullies in the clicks that gang up against new people that come in. I can totally relate. After me, my elderly mom & our cats being sick for 13 years after moving into this rental, I tested it in 2019 using professional meth residue test kits, & found all rooms as well as the garage are contaminated with meth residue by prior tenants. After receiving the lab results I immediately notified the property manager, who then ghosted me for about 6 months. That is until I sent my rent payment certified return receipt. Then the property mgr owner and his business partner came out to discuss the contamination with me. They promised to do right by me & make this right. They promised to decontaminate my belongings or replace what couldn't be. They said they would pack & store my items, & lodge me somewhere & cover all costs, plus meals. They sent out their maintenance staff & a construction contractor who stated that the wall heater that is in the ceiling of the bathroom is a serious fire danger. They have not repaired the leaking kitchen sink, or faulty faucet, or the roof that I informed them 3 times now that multiple shingles have blown away. Here it is 3 years later & not a damn thing has been done. I am tired of paying rent to only have to sleep on a shared patio to limit any further exposure; fighting off spiders & the rats that come over from the neighbors filthy property. I got an attorney, & now they are threatening to evict me using ORS 90.427 Termination of Tenancy Without Tenant Cause; citing I will not leave so they can remediate the premises. How about doing what you promised to do! Verbal contracts are valid in Oregon. Where the hell do they think I can move my contaminated belongings to? You can't put them in a storage unit or in a new rental ( there are none available anyway) or there would be cross contamination. In effect they are now retaliating against me for violating my tenants right under ORS 90.320 Landlord To Maintain Premises In Habitable, Safe Condition....for 3 years! @@idontknowlol5379 no,because the tenant could be FOS and is not a mold expert. They don’t. If they did have black mold they would have to leave anyway because the whole structure would need mold remediation which is extremely extensive and the units have to be empty for that kind of work. No one needs a bully busting into an office and acting like that. Her heart may be in the right place but she’s way out of line, acting rude and unprofessional and disrespectful. No one will listen to someone like that. Even if I was manager and in the wrong, I’d tell her to leave, then talk to my lawyer. That is the absolute best way to make sure people don’t want to work with you, listen to your concerns or listen to anything you have to say. Awful

@@dcg590 I get your point. I really do. Passionate activism that defends the rights of people or animals, is seldom pretty. We see activists doing all sorts of things to get their point across. And record suggest it actually does work to draw attention, change minds, and ultimately help others. I think of groups like PETA, or the Buddhists where the one Buddhist set himself on fire to make a point during the Vietnam war, I also think of the BLM movement whose message is pure gold but some of the activism is moot. But I do understand your point. As for me, I believe that activism means learning how to work the court system. People in America do not know enough about that. Our constitutionsl rights allow average citizens to file petitions and see a judge. But people think they need a lawyer and they don't. Its essential that we learn how to work our legal system in civil matters. There can be a lot that happens for the good that way.

Water demage showed up, I emailed them & then because of $$$$ issues they found their out ( but after evicting me they took the $$$ that was supposed to help keep from eviction) I got screwed & Crawford county court doesn't seem to care, the city hall said they don't care about mold issues..... After the social worker intervention, he finally paid the bill but now wants us evicted by October 2022. On our end, the utility bills of electric, gas, water and phone are = $0. Yupper. 😷

Having this issue in Austin at a Camden apartment. I've paid for. an inspector, I've been displaced for almost 30 days now and it's been such a terrible nightmare including my health being compromised. Landlords will not test or treat mold unless the tenant forks $700 or more for an inspection report (which they will deny compensating you for). I checked out at least nine other units from Feb. to yesterday in Camden apartment complexes and one other complex, and I was shocked how they all had signs of mold and water intrusion, water mold stains on the ceiling. Being exposed to heavy concentrations mold over time makes you sensitive, and ill. My body immediately reacts to mold now; as experienced in those units. It hits you like a ton of bricks in the chest. The laws need to change especially since the 2019 Winter storm. Nothing is same, do a pre-lease inspection and run if the landlord fusses over it. Most apartment buildings are not maintained like they need to be, and tenants are left to prove mold and fork out hundreds of dollars, compromise their heath, and potentially loose their belongings.
