Hello Tom, I am 55 and I appreciate your coaching. Since playing with the modern day racquet I realised that a change in the way I stroked the ball was needed. I adapted and have been playing like you have said. I wish I had seen your coaching tips earlier. Cheers.

I agree upward acceleration or low to high swing pattern to generate topspin. If the wrist goes or rolls too early, your shot is in the net. Watch slow motion of Federer and you will clearly see his racquet stays vertical after contact for a minimum of 6 inches AFTER Contact, then and only then, does the racquet roll over. All the best, Tom

Hi Tom, Thousand thanks! Very clear and constructive tips. Low to high, and flat at the time of contact, are golden key! hours of instructions I received elsewhere were far less effective than watching this 8 minutes tips. Thanks for the clarity and precision of your instructions. Wish you all the best!

Hi Tom, A big thanks from France, i just did a wall practice to apply (only 2 ! :)) the "racket face close" and "1 foot below" and after 1 hour i can feel my forhead is better. I'll confirm by match tomorrow. If it can help anyone, to have have the "racket face down" i imagined that i have to strike a ball on the floor at my back foot, like a golf shot. It make the movement easier for me. :)

Tom, good points but I respectfully disagree about holding the racket face level and vertical past the contact point in relation to topspin! What u are describing is for when hitting the ball flat(swing thru), or better described as you want your arm extended at contact point! the ball makes contact w/ racket for less than 1sec so you need all the upward acceleration (what I like to call taking swing path up on a hill analogy) to generate topspin &u have to let the wrist go right after contact!
@Fundamentalsoftennis
4 жыл бұрын
You must drive through the shot or contact zone... if you come up too quick... yes you will get plenty of topspin but no power or depth on your shot. To your tennis success, Tom

Hi Tom, can you tell me how much weight do you put in each leg before, during, and after the moment of impact of the racket and the ball ? Is it important to use the hips to generate power or it only has a marginal role ? Thank you

Federer does not hold the racket level and vertical past contact point, what he does is, from proper spacing(distance between himself and the ball), his arm is extended at contact point-should always be the case on groundstrokes, swing-volleys, overhead, serve- (extension begins before contact) with racket face slightly closed (tilted forward) and not fully vertical unless he's hitting a flat shot (swinging thru the ball)! Correct tips otherwise :)!

Hey Tom, I am a baseline player (Agassi is my hero) - use a gamma, what do you recommend for string tension?
@Fundamentalsoftennis

I've been using only POLY strings (Luxilon 1.25) and stringing at 42 lbs.which seems quite low but the strings are biting the ball very well. To your tennis success, Tom

i still yused my wrist to mutch in the hitting zone.. you have any tips for me how i used my shoulder more.. maybe i must think . swing from your shoulder ?
@Fundamentalsoftennis
7 жыл бұрын
Yes just really focus on using your shoulder and let the wrist relax through the contact zone... once you're through the contact zone you can let your wrist roll over and finish up near the non-hitting shoulder. All the best, Tom

Tom good video, however i noticed during your slow motion back swing that you have no wrist flexion in your technique. Is this just for this video? or do you not practice this motion in your regular forehand swing? All the pros do it, I was just wondering?
