Thanks for the useful recording - curious on choice of Woodlands vs Tuas crossings. What day was this recorded? If Wed Jul 19, then low traffic likely due to public holiday in Malaysia. BTW, I find AutoPilot to be fairly useless in Singapore. It doesn't do the lane change fast enough. Even the adaptive cruise control feature is buggy - there is one section of MCE that consistently befundles it, doing a hard braking despite there is no vehicles in front. It is also quite jerky - accelerating to catch-up with the car in front and then braking hard. In comparison, the Volvo XC60 ACC feature is much refined.

Thanks for sharing your experience on the limitations of Autopilot! Yes, it was on Wed (19 Jul). Very rare clear day at immigration.

Hi Daren, can the moon roof keep our scorching sun out of the cabin? And for Model Y, can the rather small air conditioning vent sufficiently cool the cabin of the car?

Hi Daren, i believe he set the duration for charging. Go To-U is base on how long u need to charge during reservation. if u set 30min, it will stop when it reached 30min. My opinion for charging from SB to NB or NB to SB, can stop at Ayer Hitam Petronas. Exit the toll, the traffic lights just turn right then u can c the Petronas on your right. the charger is 180kW, RM1.50/kW. More value for money and time saving.

You're right on time-based charging! We were too used to kWh charging. Thanks for the tips on ideal charging stops! We used Gentari Ayer Hitam on the way back.

The Go-To-U app reserve your charge slot in blocks of 10 minutes, it probably have ended the charging session before your car max SOC because the charge slot reserved is up.

Great job Daren. I feel that so many more people will have the confidence to drive an EV who like to take the same trip as you two did. The more people see and understand how much ease an EV can bring to them the better. The border crossing was the most time consuming part of the trip so I hope both countries will employ more people to cut wait times in half or more, especially during the holidays. Imagine when the cars are self driving how many more people will prefer to have the car driven instead of them flying! Hope dinner was great! Travel safe!

The reason why the charging station will not fully charge the car, it’s because the station try to avoid crowded. The battery will be charged very slow after 80% 😊 that’s my point

Some years down the line we’ll look back at taking an hour to charge our cars (no differentiation since all cars will be EVs) and laugh. This is something EV haters cannot get their heads around. They think 2023 is the final version of EV tech

I am interested in getting an EV. Last week's Polling Day, drivers stucked on the causeway for 8-9 hours just to reach Johor. At 85% SoC, able to make it to the other side?
@DarenYoong
Жыл бұрын
Many Tesla owners report consuming 3-4% SoC per hour of traffic, so it will be okay. If traffic at the border is heavy, it's okay to charge at TNB Electron Ayer Keroh R&R Northbound before heading further up.

So every stop for charging will add 20-30 min to your journey. That’s assuming no one already booked/using the charging station. Good luck find an empty slot during peak period or extended holiday periods when the highway and rest areas are jammed up.
