Worth noting that FSD will need to improve in many parts of the world. I’m on the west coast of Canada and I’ve been using 12.5.1 daily. Just yesterday when it was about to merge onto the highway (cement meridian in my right) it turned on the RIGHT signal and began to turn into it but of course I took over and merged properly. Granted this was at night and maybe there was debris on the external camera but even so, this is not Robotaxi ready. And this is coming from a Tesla and FSD bull. That being said it performs 99% of driving tasks incredibly well, so I’m seeing the improvement. But I feel like we are a handful of years off from actual robotaxis on roads the world over.

Just a couple of thoughts. First if FSD, driving like your grandmother, is overtaken by other drivers breaking the speed limit, is the way forward to program FSD to regularly break the speed limit? The confidence you have in regulatory approval does not quite seem to fit here. My second thought is about the concept of interventions. Taking an Uber trip back home yesterday, there were a number of occasions where I would have liked to have have "intervened" but of course without FSD I cannot!

The intuitive and smooth autonomous driving Tesla has achieved in 12.5 is amazing, and yet nowhere near what will be necessary for driverless robotaxis across the U.S. These cars will need to perform in a variety of weather conditions and all sorts of emergency and construction anomalies. The gap between what we're seeing from FSD and a fully autonomous vehicle is larger than most people realize. If Tesla was nearly as confident as they're letting on, why wouldn't they be operating a fleet like Waymo to show off their capabilities and help their stock price? Why wouldn't they show off their miles to intervention data? Because that data would reveal a technology that isn't close to full autonomy. Because the gap I'm referring to is actually the width of the Grand Canyon. That's why.

@@adda58 I only wondered because the U.S. we have a huge interstate highway system and the same roads go thousands of miles. Roads like I-75, I-90, I-20 that are wide open and without traffic lights and can go 500, 600, 700 miles in a day. My brother drove once to Chicago 800 miles in one day. I never appreciated how vast our highway system was until travelling to other countries. Also never appreciated how big the country is. It now makes me think about the great concern of range anxiety with EV charging. Europeans never go so far and just comparatively very short distances to U.S. drivers. If we travel by car, we want to drive a lot to get where we are going and don't want interruption because we're used to it. I once drove 700 miles in a day. I was travelling for business and didn't even start out so early nor did I plan that many miles but as I made good progress in getting to a destination earlier in the day so I decided to go for it, to a destination I needed to be the next day. @GBOPossum

@@tomdrewenskus8167 First up, remember that YOU are always the one in control. Think of it like "cruise control". Any time I disagree with what it's doing, I take over. I have had 65 years of driving experience, (though not accident-free 😂). It probably won't be as good as a driver as you with such a long, accident-free history. Yet. Things are moving fast (but nowhere near as fast as Elon's claims). And it certainly doesn't "do exactly as I do". The line taken through freeway exits is different. (I drive to maximize the radius for reasons of comfort and to enter the freeway at a better speed) The distance between the Tesla and another vehicle during an evasive emergency situation will be different to how I drive. Some observers credit it with being better at calculating speeds and distances and predicting possible future trajectories than humans. I find that in 12.5.1.x, when approaching speed humps, it leaves braking a little late for my taste, and accelerates harder than I would. It's significantly more cautious at stop signs than I am. It's better than I am at decision-making when at complex busy intersections when one has to keep track of many stationary and moving vehicles. Here's what I would recommend if you have a Tesla Demo Drive location near you. Get the Sales Advisor to take you out and specifically demonstrate FSD to you. (Elon has said he wants them to do this). Do NOT try to "test" FSD yourself, there's a learning curve. It's scary at first and it takes time to learn what to trust and what not to trust. You need to be shown by someone who has become comfortable with FSD and can explain what they are (not) doing! Hope this helps!

Change your mind last minute and go into another lane to avoid too many cars in the queue is an intervention. A key phrase in the report; "some mistakes still get made" . So here's the thing; I'm pretty worried that if Elon presses too hard/get's FSD released as 'ready' too soon, there are gonna be a lot of accidents, a few deaths, and a whole bunch of lawsuits. Sure, sure, Omar and some others swear up and down it's perfect already, but all it takes is a little browsing on youtube to find a whole lot of people for which it doesn't work well at all. So I'm hoping....that Tesla will launch robotaxi only in certain locations, only in certain conditions, and proceed with extreme caution, while the engineers continue to struggle with the monumental challenge of making it actually work anywhere, because if it gets released for general use before it is virtually perfect...there will be mayhem.

@AncientEgyptArchitecture I don't think your worry is justified. Look at Mercedes getting their level 3 autonomy certification for a few highways in extremely specific conditions just because they wanted to be the first checking that box. Tesla FSD is insanely better by comparison, but haven't even tried to apply for a higher autonomy level. They seem to prefer taking the safe path towards autonomy. And it shows they have the right focus, since their safety ratings are the best in the world. It's safe _(no pun intended)_ to say that they're not willing to rush it.

I don't really care that much about driving in the city or towns as those are short trips and I'm not greatly fatigued. But for my Cybertruck (2026) I'd love for it to safely drive on the main interstates for 200 - 250 miles at a time. I would want to take a nap or read or do work. How about we just get that at some point by 2026?

Something is definitely wrong! People should be reporting, "This month only one intervention." not "Had a no interventions today". But this would be even worse - you have to think about it. As soon as Eloon will sit in the back seat, no driver in the driver's seat, and let his FSD drive him around for a month in all sorts of traffic and conditions, maybe just maybe FSD will be about ready to give the innocent drivers a trial period.

You’re joking, right? That piece of piss content is not worthy of any attention whatsoever. It was clearly staged to favour the Ford. They put the Cybertruck through “tests” that would destroy any vehicle and they pretended they hadn’t. If anyone saw that and thought it was a bad reflection on the Cybertruck, they’re welcome to that conclusion - they’re too thick to be trusted with a Tesla.

Who exactly will INSURE a self-driving car? I suspect that my insurance company will put a rider on my Tesla policy stating that they are not responsible for damages when FSD (not-supervised) is engaged. Will Tesla insure? Who will show up when a Tesla runs over a pedestrian or cyclist that jumps out from between parked cars? Who will be 1st to put their child on the front seat, kiss them on the forehead, and tell their Tesla to take that child to school, then stop at McD for a burger before returning home? This ain't happening any time soon.

Cybertruck, some people say, was actually presented "As a Joke!" But so many people Jumped on the Bandwagon, that it kind of "Backfired" on Elon! If you recall, prior to the Unveiling Event, Elon, on Twitter said, "If the Public doesn't 'Like it', he'll design a more conventional pickup!" I think even HE is surprised, that it became so "Popular" and then had a harder time trying to get it to Production, than he Imagined! He recently has said, "Cybertruck is Too Expensive!" (If that help you, any!)

Musk is acting in direct opposition to his responsibilities as CEO of Tesla. His misinformation factory is akin to Trumps. But that is NOT the issue. It's his poor decision making regarding running a 140k employee PUBLIC company. Not twitter, where he abdicates his Tesla duties. If he lacks self control and reason and uses his time to burn the interests of Tesla, it is rational for the highly valued multiplier of Tesla based on his historic value creation, be appropriately reduced - by a lot more.
