Much better test here …The Poliquin Test for fibre type- Determine your one repetition maximum (1RM) on an exercise Rest for 15 minutes Perform as many repetitions as possible at 85% of your 1RM Less than 5 repetitions - fast twitch (FT) muscles fibres are dominant 5 repetitions - mixed fibre type More than 5 repetitions - slow twitch (ST) dominant.

1. Back squat 1rm and 5rm. 5rm should be ~85% of 1rm. 2. DB Bench 5rm hould be ~70% of regular bench 1rm split between both hands. 3. Depth drop to broad jump 4. Triple Jump 5. Stair Jumps.

Great video! Hey, if testing a 5-rep max squat for explosiveness, would they be continuous reps? Seems like I can always sneak another few reps if I pause and wait long enough

Would you rather have an athlete come in that's already elite but has bad form and won't listen to you....or would you rather have a average person come in but they will do anything you say without argue

I believe what's being described here is to determine you or your athlete's explosiveness... and a rough guide to some corrections, growth strategies, and enhancer. In general, competitive sports is special because many types of athletes, body types, and strengths/weaknesses can legitimately compete and reach all kind of levels of success... ambition, work ethic, information, and risk taking... play big parts to that success.

I'm still kinda confused about why having your 5RM closer to 80% than 90% would indicate that you are more explosive, can someone explain?
@GarageStrength
Жыл бұрын
The further your 5RM is away from your 1RM determines twitchiness…closer you are, the more endurance you have with heavier weight. This isn’t AS ACCURATE with elite athletes.

Honestly idk how much weight lifting in general is an actual indicator of explosiveness and twitchiness. How would he explain people who are clearly explosive and twitchy but can’t lift a lot in terms of their max and percentages of their max..?

So you're saying if our 10 rep DB bench is over 66% then we lack explosivity? And if the 10 rep DB is less 66% means we would be more explosive?

Brandon George... Garage Strength... Explosion, power, speed, intensity, attitude, and even knowledge you do not have command over... is just a liability. Brandon's journey at University of Pittsburgh and Garage Strength is an example of trying to maximize command of these "forces" to unlock his potential, while competing in a very competitive sport of FOOTBALL. Plyometrics is a perfect vehicle to learn these things and this KZitem Channel is a great resource for this type of information. To the athletes, who support this channel and the people who are the engine to Garage Strength (on KZitem)... Thank You!

In regards to RM's as a relative % of your max (particularly 10-RM), wouldn't a higher relative % 1RM be indicative of an athlete that is more slow twitch? For example - a distance runner (or other endurance athlete) would be able to rep (theoretically) 75% 1RM for 10 reps. Using running as a metaphor, they're able to sustain a higher relative % of running velocity for longer than are sprinters (who obviously have a greater peak velocity). Thoughts?
@michiel5160

That's what he said. If you can do 5 reps at 90% you are less explosive than when you can do 5 reps at 80%.

Some of those squatters have really bad form. If they keep it up they're going to need knee replacements in the near future.
