Had another go at videoing my activities at a test track day, but this time rather than doing a test of my models, it's more a test of my videoing and editing techniques. Also a test of my ability to drive and film same time. Very difficult, in fact it resulted in the train reversing in the first shot crashing into the buffers off camera.
When something like that happens, due to my want to keep the realism continuous, the only way I have come up with to deal with such an accident is to leave everything as it is, untouched, unmoved for a certain time period (it was in no one's way). Nothing had derailed and there was no damage (there would have been with the real thing), but any passengers and loco crew would have suffered some severe G forces, so I represent that by just leaving it untouched for a while. In this case I didn't move it for about 15 minutes or more I think. If it had happened on my home test track I wouldn't have moved it till next day. This kind of thing all adds to the realism for me, brings it alive .... yes .... no movement I think can bring life to a layout sometimes. If I had an exhibition layout I would hurry such things a long or I would have other movement to take interest.
Sorry if you don't like the addition of music to the video but when a locomotive does not have sound I feel it's better. I hope to give this battery powered loco sound at some point and then of course who would want to swamp the beautifull music of a locomotive in steam?
