Yeah, all the sauce would overpower the meat. Additionally, you have to really force the carapace open and dig the meat out with your fingers. Fine, I’ll pay $2.00 bucks for that. This must be street food.

We can eat the shell. In Asia it’s done for certain shrimp. As long as the shell is thin and shrimp is passed through a pan with a sauce. It also give the meat a very good flavor ❤.

It seems that putting them in the icebath is what killed them, not cutting them open. Also, who peels a hard-boiled egg by cutting it in half, right through the shell!?? Good way to dull your knives and get eggshells in your food.

Because its salted egg, it shell is too sticky to peel. Its faster to cut them with knife and scrape it with spoon.

Salted duck eggs are opened that way. The shells are very soft, they don't harm your knife. Opening the eggs with something blunt is messy and annoying.

Thailand is the oddball in Asia. They make Japan or South Korea look tame. There’s a Vietnamese gentleman in our apartment and he’s pretty square.

this type of mantis shrimp is actually the spearer varriety. they have mantis claws, not "boxing gloves" as for handling, they cant hurt you if you grab them from the back. just gotta be fast.

I believes there's 2 variants. I saw one tht uses grasping sharp claws to catch its prey and one tht uses a hammar hand to break shells Sharp claw ones imma assume lives in the east and te west one has the hammar hand one

Supposedly the shell can be eaten, but if it's not edible maybe they expect diners to actually eat it the way we eat artichokes, so we can get the egg sauce and the meat at the same time.

Wow!!! Sure don't see any seafood like that where I live here in Krakow, Poland. What a pity. I can buy duck but not duck eggs. I can buy frozen Thai shrimp around 2 to 3 centimeters in size that here they call jumbo but nothing like those big guys. Thailand is a culinary paradise. Poland and central Europe in general is a culinary wasteland by comparison.

Aren't mantis shrimp the ones that can POP a pair of small, front appendages faster than bullets? That dude at the beginning just fishes one out, not worrying about losing a finger! Unless this is a different species, I'd never stick my hand in that tank!

Mantis Shrimps!! YUMMY! so wierd looking yet soooo tasty! They're like a cross between a Shrimp and a lobster , too bad they're not so Cheap or popular outside Asia , i usually avoid buying the live ones as they are so agressive and strong ! They have sharp pointy Paws that can really hurt! The cooking technique is really impressive as i've never seen such a recipe before! As seen the Eggs were baked not boiled for a better taste & color! Thanks for aGreat job!

They are called mantis shrimp. Plants and animals often have many common names which are often unrelated to the scientific name. None of those names are "wrong" even if they aren't the name you know.
