Only the early A1s used the 105mm gun. Subsesequent models use a 120mm smoothbore.

The M1A1 was never armed with the 105mm

The A1 designation is the 1984 upgrade to the 120 mm L-44 smoothbore by Rheinmetall. It is licensed to an American company that makes it renamed to one of the M numbers.

The Abrams was upgraded to the license produced Rheinmetall 120 mm L-44 smoothbore during the late eighties. I don't know who did the research but fire him. Only fire support vehicles still use the 105 mm L-7. The Leopard 2 A8 is starting production soon and the next generation prototype (Leopard 2 A-RC 3.0) is being developed. Both outclass everything else named here only the Leclerc XLR from France is close to the same capability as the A8. It's next generation prototype with the 140 mm GIAT is nearly equal to the A-RC only slightly less protection.

Where's the tank from the thumbnail? At least his cannon?

Mostly any modern drones can mess with this MBT, and any other MBT as well.

Usually tank on tank doesn't happen very often anymore. Most tanks in vehicle on vehicle that are destroyed is by an IFV. Most tanks are destroyed by drones like you said or other air assets. We started using the Spike NLOS in combination with a small drone to hunt armour in our army. We in the air force only still go after heavy equipment like tanks and artillery (both anti-air and ground).

Nope the airthreat has always been there. The tanks are now getting a 30 mm on top to deal with those. We are looking at the Australian Slinger currently.

The gas turbine of the abrams is complete useless. Can't be serviced in the field and sucks in sand killing the turbine

It's true than no Abrams were lost due to enemy fire in Iraq, but several of them have already been knocked out in Ukraine.

The Abrams tanks that have been given to Ukraine are also the “export” version. They use a Tungsten allow armor, which is good, but not anywhere near as good as the Depleted Uranium/Chobham/Kevlar/Ceramics armor that is on the U.S. tanks. The U.S. saves that armor mixture for ourselves, and it isn’t exported to anyone, anywhere. It’s kind of like the US Army’s version of the F-22 Raptor.

@@willymac5036 I don't think armor is the problem. Missiles and drones attack the top or the back where the armor is the thinnest, regardless which type of armor.
@willymac5036

@@ice-xv1hi although that is true, it takes nearly TWICE the amount of Tungsten armor to provide the same level of protection as the US Version. If they were using the US armor profile, I seriously doubt those drone attacks would be getting through. ATGM’s are another story altogether though.

I think many many M1 got damaged and destroyed in Iraq by IEDs and the like its just not possible to build any tank that's indestructible Some 5 or now many 8 m1s have been damaged or destroyed in Ukraine all by mines and then drones the crew always seam to get out ok so that's the best you can do The ammunition in an M1 is stored in the busl at the back of the turret this was very good for could war facing Russian tanks head on but now you never face a tank its always drones and the back of the turret is the first thing attacked the answer??? Active protection system? Is probably the only way to go because tanks are now destroyed 10 kilometers from the front line If you look at the Israeli Merkava it's turret seams to have all the armour on the roof and it's got the best APS in the world.. you never here of 1 of them being knocked out with a drone
