“Are we the baddies?” Is so valuable because people don’t like to re-examine their core beliefs. To me that sketch is therefore of a different level, the concept is one of the deepest concepts I know in any sketch ever. So i place those characters on a different level as well. With those exceptions I can agree with you though 🤣

For those who don't know/remember, in the mid-90s a lot of TV signals to Scotland and the north of England were piggybacked off of transmitters halfway. This would lead to bad signal on many programmes, with on screen messages and commentary mentioning it from time to time.

PavarottiAardvark Australian here. I always wondered how that worked. Thanks for explaining. 📺 I have no idea how it worked early on for Sydney to Melbourne. I understand it was by phone lines and then microwave??? Satellite now, I suppose.

@@LeofromFreo Yeah Sydney and Melbourne had to use totally different systems to each other. Melbourne had big transmitters on hills, but Sydney had to use relay stations because it's in a basin.

I know this is a comedy skit, but I see these two fictional characters coming from dreary backgrounds, and this time together, getting drunk, is their luxury in life. Some see comedy; I see a blossoming friendship and happiness.

To be honest, I'm not sure how fair a comment it is now, but certainly 20-30 years ago, most snooker fans were northern, and it was seen as a commoner's game dressed up. Nowadays it's a little more dispersed, particularly with the masterclass of Ronnie O'Sullivan having a decent fanbase in the capital.

@Corvo Fox-Gray (and also to Gabab) Well that "North-South" thing (or indeed East-West, depending on geographical locations around the world!) is of course only partially true. But that, as I'm sure you know is sort of the point of comedy like this. Satirising attitudes and prejudices. Being a Londoner, i had a partner who came from Darlington, a classic "North South" relationship. On my first visit (Oop North!) when i went to the pub to meet her friends, when i was asked what i wanted to drink, i of course did the manly thing, and requested a half of shandy. It broke the ice! PS it certainly WAS well worth the 8 year wait! 😁

These two men are one of the most outstanding comedy duos. I've said it before and I'll say it again, "Male comedy duos are my favourite form of comedy." The Two Ronnies, Fry and Laurie, Hale and Pace, Harry and Paul, Gervais and Merchant and, finally Mitchell and Webb. I'm sure everyone playing along at home will agree...."That's Wordwang!". Not, um, Numberwang as I didn't use any unrelated, irrelevant numbers....you see? I hope everyone enjoys these vids as much as I.
