Also in 1966 : - Andrei Rublev (Andrei Tarkovsky) - Ride in the Whirlwind (Monte Hellman) - Harper (Jack Smight) - Who Are You, Polly Maggoo? (William Klein) - Le Père Noël A les Yeux Bleus (Jean Eustache)

I completely agree with your number 1 pick. This played at my local revival theater once a year and it was a packed house every time. I must have seen this on the big screen at least 20 times. Another great action film from 1966 is The Professionals. A great cast including (weirdly) Jack Palance as a Mexican outlaw.

Top film of '66 is hands down Who's Afraid Of Virginia Woolf as everything else that year was secondary.

mmmm .. yes, 1966 ... Some of my favorite films were made on that year (says i with some nostalgia) : the year of Andrei Rublev, the year of Au Hazard Balthazar, of Chimes at Midnight, of La Caza, Persona, Cul-de-sac & Young Torless .. did i mention Seconds? oh you did ... will def have to watch that War & Peace , thanks for the tips!

You seem well familiar with movies of 1966! Not that well educated myself! Getting more and more into classic movies though.

@@harrihaffi2713 dont worry about the distinction between so-called classic and non-classic movies ... if you like film just watch films from different periods and filmmakers ... keep an open eye!

@@daaronk Not bad advice. But really wanna watch stuff from certain periods. Partly cause my knowledge there is lacking and I kinda consider myself a movie buff, but also cause I’m doing a movie quiz series that’s moving backwards in time and passed 1980 I haven’t really seen much. Kinda awkward when I announce my favorite movie of the year to be the only movie I’ve seen that year. Hasn’t happened that many times though. And making quizzes does teach me a bit about them movies.

@@harrihaffi2713 maybe grab a History of Film and check out the films discussed there . If you havent seen much before 1980 you might have to shift the way you watch film . Especially if you get into Artfilm . Its a different perspective . The classic/non-classic comment was made because there tends to be a bit of reverence for certain films (or books or music for that matter) that prevents critique or personal taste/opinion . All i say is approach the films on their own merits and what they mean to you . Of course try to keep an open mind and try to understand the reasons for their relevance . I find it helpful to classify : meaning a movie for entertainment has a different function to an artistic movie or a political movie . If you expect the same form one or the other you wont really appreciate them, i would say . Different ways of seeing i guess

@@daaronk no worries! Pretty sure I follow my personal preference quite a bit. As for changing the way I watch movies I do that all the time. Ending on streaming service after another. Prefer watching dvd:s. Suspect that they are going away now though.

Blow up, MMmmm not sure about that one, her with the teeth is in it, her who cooks and walks everywhere. forgot her name, but The Good the Bad and the Ugly was made and is my ringtone, the film that broadened my musical taste. I stopped counting at 500 how many films the star is mentioned in, the same with music,
