Whenever I hear jingles like that one you played around 3:00, I think about the singers. Talented people who probably dreamed of careers in front of thousands of people belting out songs about love and loss, yet here they are singing their hearts out over a company's game catalog.

Wow, it's like the advanced version of Dream Phone. I like that it comes with a SYNC cable. It's good to have it NSYNC. You know.

They did a good job of replicating the common cell phone of the time. It was an era of predatory cell phone stands on college campuses getting kids to sign up. This was the time of Counterstrike 1.3 on a dorm LAN. The NSYNC phone would have been quickly tossed out the window of a moving 1993 Honda Accord much like a Papa Roach CD.

I was in about the right demographic at the time, being an 11-year-old girl, but I'm SO glad I was never into boy bands ... OMG, how much stale corperate cheese can a product have?

The game port was also used for midi devices. The phone might be able to be used as a midi device.

I remember the Boy Band Wars of the late 90's-early 2000s. Girls clawing eachother's eyes out over who had the best songs and cutest band members. Those were dark times.

There’s something real creepy about fully grown men marketing themselves in a romantic way to 10 year old girls

@@TechGamesAU It totally is! I was in the demographic, but thought boy bands were annoying/stupid. still mislabel Justin Timberlake as a Backstreet Boy in my mind because I just ... don't care. My best friend was boy band crazy, though, and I'm SO glad she never got this! As we got older, she had too much taste for way older guys anyway.

Nah, it's just commodified, marketed make-believe for a perfectly normal developmental phase in a girl child's life. They practice romantic feelings through an unreachable and therefore safe object. The adulthood of the object makes it seem even more safe for the child. It's only creepy if the adult in question doesn't actually realize this, and that's when we get to CPS territory.

You just freaking unlocked a childhood memory just from the thumbnail alone! I never had this, but I had friends who did. This type of niche activity software is the stuff I would hover over when I was left on my own at the department store. And on a fun, N’SYNC related note, my teen crush was Lance Bass. Imagine my perplexity years later.

1:57 My personal headcanon for why Clint has that lunch box is because he is secretly a huge N'Synch fan and has been for years. He had the phone (and bubble gum-filled lunchbox) at launch and has been eagerly awaiting the day when he could open this treasure and share it with the world. I see Clint as a Joey stan.

If this was available in the mid or late 90s instead of early 00s, I would've gone crazy for this. As a kid or a teen in that era, any new technology is super exciting. I remember being excited about tamagotchi. So to have a phone where Nsync members can 'call' or 'talk' to you in the era where cellphone is primitive and not widely used, that's damn exciting.

This reminds me of that Japanese Software Company that bought an old Cellular Company that was going bankrupt due to Smartphones taking over the Market. They basically retrofitted the phones with a software of an E-Girlfriend that send you messages and had basic conversations with you, it was before AI was even a thing...
