How about the Croad + McPharlin trade? Freo gets those two in exchange for picks 1, 20 and 36 to Hawthorn. Hawks pick Hodge and Mitchell. They combine for 600+ games, 8 premierships, 2 Norm Smiths, 1 Brownlow, several AAs and countless B&Fs. Then just to rub salt in the wound, Croad comes back after 2 years in exchange for pick 10 (Ryley Dunn, 8 games), plays another 100 games for the Hawks and wins the '08 flag!

Carlton didnt lose the trade with Judd and Kennedy. There is alot more to it. If Carlton kept Kennedy and not Judd, The Blues would not make the finals, he wasnt needed, they already had the best forward in Fevola going around. The trade worked out perfect for both clubs. Blues needed a champion Mid and Eagles needed a Star Forward.

What about the Tim Kelly deal? Geelong Young player Tim Kelly wanted to go home and be traded to WCE. WCE tried to give weak picks and underpay Geelong, do much so the Cats held onto Kelly for another year. Kelly got an AA and the next year, wanted to go to WCE again. This time, Geelong ended up with two draft picks, two futures for Kelly and a pick the other way. Geelong used the two futures the next year, along with another pick to get Jeremy Cameron from GWS. So Geelong effectively turned Tim Kelly into Jeremy Cameron.

In 2014, Collingwood traded Dayne Beams to Brisbane for Pick 5, 25, Jack Crisp and in a larger five club deal Travis Varcoe. 25 was swapped with North for Levi Greenwood, and the Pies used pick 5 on Jordan Degoey! All four played in the 2018 Grand Final, and obviously Degoey and Crisp were instrumental in our 2023 Premiership. With both of them still a huge part of the Collingwood lineup.

@@DannyMcGinlay Some context here. North Melbourne had just won the 1999 premiership. Geelong were in the bottom 2/3rds of ladder. Leigh Colbert, who was our brightest young star and captain, wanted to leave and go to North Melbourne.. Now firstly, North offered to trade Brady Rawlings, who had been running around in the ressies for most of the year and was a spud. Geelong demanded a premiership player in exchange. So North offered Cam Mooney, a bit player at North, who only played in the GF because Jason McCartney got rubbed out, and sat on the bench until a minute before the end of the game. He was the last man picked in that side. So North tried to shaft Geelong as Mooney was not a star back then, as well as giving us three picks in the 30s. Geelong got Enright from one pick, got Mooney who developed into a better player for the Cats, and they on traded another pick and with the pick back drafted Joel Corey.

You got the wrong Wayne Carey trade in this list... his original trade story is easily #1 and its not even close. In 1987 when the draft was just starting out, a North Melbourne administrator was negotiating with Sydney to trade for John Longmire. Wayne Carey had moved from Wagga to Adelaide 2 years ago but at that time Sydney still had his rights under the 36 month rule, however they did not know much about him. North Melbourne offered Sydney $60,000 for John Longmire which was agreed upon and said we'll pay you another $10,000 if you throw in this teenager named Wayne Carey as a set of steak knives kind of deal. Sydney agreed and the rest is history...

That first trade is incredibly weak for a best/worst of all time. That was more like there were two average players traded and Collingwood just picked well at 34 to get Leon Davis. Unless that was done on draft night after pick 33, it's just a regular trade.
