I'm 45 and haven't really even had a bike around since high school. I bought a 2021 rockhopper comp a couple weeks ago. It's XXL, gears are 1x9, 29" tires, shocks have a lock out, hydraulic brakes, advent deraileur with clutch... I think its great for the money. It feels huge, but I'm getting used to it and I love it! My cardio is horrible right now and every time I take it out, I'm winded but keep going because it's so much fun. Just get it!!

I got over this by playing with the quick release on the front wheel. its a great bike and with high speeds its very stable. Its also very light which makes tricks like bhop easier. The brakes are not that strong, but im able to do a good stoppie so they are not that bad. Even in the stock config there are no annoying noises other that the chain slapping sometimes when i do tricks. Its a great bike and is worth every dollar you gave.

it will be possible to ride on asphalt, but the roll will be mediocre due to sticky tires. It also has a very soft frame, which is good for trails, but bad for smooth asphalt. Also, the transmission is not suitable for high speeds (only if you do not select the junior stars in the cassette, which is undesirable due to their rapid aging)

Wow. You'd think that manufacturers like Specialized or Trek would be upping their game here in this price point bikes. They are getting some stiff competition in the entry level space from Schwinn of all companies in 2020. In fact, I'd maybe go out on a climb and suggest to someone looking for an entry level bike to look into a schwinn axiom if they wanted a 29er, or the 2020 model of the aluminum comp if they wanted a 27.5. They're honestly both equipped equally to this line, but a few hundred less. Just my opinion, though.
@Jamesthebikeguy
4 жыл бұрын
So i may be blind but I don't agree. This bike is easily as nice (prob nicer) than the Axum. Specifically if something breaks you can repair this, the house brand drivetrain on that bike will be hard to get fixed. Regardless the Axum is $400 and this bike is $500 in my area. Also in my area a pro bike build is $100, so simply getting the Axum built properly will equal the cost of these two bikes. Not to mention a beginner rider is not a "bike builder" so DIY is a bad option at this price. Further more this bike comes in 6 sizes so you get the right fit, versus just one size. Last thing that is never mentioned is warranty. Specialized is lifetime on the frame and a year on everything else. That means you are pretty well covered, where as every bit of labor that comes up with a Schwinn Axum is going to require doing the work yourself or paying a dealer. With all that said the $100 "premium" for this over say that Schwinn is well justified in my opinion.

They are getting some 2020 Pitches in though. For a kid who's going to spend time riding around town and maybe some time on the trails, would a 2020 Pitch with hydraulic brakes be better than the 2021 Rockhopper with mechanical ones, given the almost equal cost/wheel size/fork? Am I missing any other major differences?

@@arunallen1277 I think he probably gets paid by them AND trek for showing off their bikes. Regardless, I've spent hours comparing the rockhopper and marlin. I would put them in order as.. (2021) Rockhopper Base model (RH), Trek Marlin 5, RH Sport, Marlin 6, RH comp, Marlin 7, RH Elite, Trek x-caliber 7, and then RH Expert. Its kind of weird how they are back and forth for which is the better deal at a certain price point. That is until I saw that the RH sport was once $560 instead of $600 and the elite was $900 instead of $950. Maybe Covid and the supply vs demand made them raise the price. Basically you can't pay the same price for both with the same features. Objectively I don't think as far as components that one is necessarily better than the other. I will say specialized uses their own in house crank "stout" to probably save money whereas trek uses perhaps a better one from a company that specializes in that equipment. They both use in house parts for the handle bars, pedals and wheels/tires. I ended up being torn between the Marlin 6 and the RH sport, the RH sport doesn't have the lockout feature on the fork, but a XCM vs XCT. I then thought about going to the RH elite or Trek X-caliber. I decided I didn't want a 1x10 so I ordered the RH sport. Trek said the Marlin 6 could take as long as december or january or the Marlin 6 might have been the one I went with.

Hi, I am 5 foot 12 (184cm) and would like 27.5 inch wheels but the 27.5 version is only in Medium so would it be to small or no problem? And do you think It's worth it to spend the extra 100 bucks for the Sport version?

Hello I’m 5’10 and use to ride bmx (dirt). I like jumping. would a medium 27.5 be ideal for my size and jumping? I am no mountain biker yet but I plan to start and also ride this on street to commute when I want. Corona virus has me limited to go and feel one out. Kindly let me know please

I wonder how hard it will be for smaller dealers to deal with all the different frame sizes and models, especially with the two different medium bikes.
@Jamesthebikeguy
4 жыл бұрын
Less difficult than dealing with 2 redundant bicycles in all the frame sizes. 2019 there was Pitch and Rockhopper in all sizes from xs-xxl so this now makes it a lot easier for the consumer and the dealer

My local place is trying to sell me the base model for $600 and $700 for the sport version. Does that price sound right? That is about $100 more per bike than listed in their website? I am in CA though so I’m not sure if that makes a difference.

However, if you're a barbarian like me, get a big ol' dumbass seat with hella cushion.. Otherwise your ass is going to get sore quick and the joy of riding is going to be gone by your 2nd day. I hope this helps one of yall out there.. Happy trails yall!
