The reason Travis Kelce fits for The albatross is because everyone started screeching that he should run because she’s a player, she’s ruining football, and she’s going to make him let his teammates down etc. But unlike Matty, who ran the moment her fans turned on him, Travis is sticking around and handling both his fans and hers with grace.

This made the WHOLE song click for me. I had the general idea of "Don't date her if you want to have a career in the future and be seen out in public still breathing cause she's a curse" aka she IS the Albatross. BUT LIKE THE CONNECTION TO TRAVIS AND THE TEAM AND THE PR QUESTIONS PUTS THE POV INTO PERSPECTIVE. When she says "Only liquor annoints you" it makes sense too now because she is usually drunk when she's seen out with him. Like she was drinking a little too much/not in her right mind when she chose him to destroy/curse by dating next because he was thoughtless of the dangers and just wanted her (and boy he got what he wanted). And maybe she swooped down on him like a bad omen, but now she looks more like an angel.

just some clearer context for the albatross (that seems to be suspiciously missing on google): the albatross itself has historically been a symbol of GOOD fortune. in rime of the ancient mariner, the mariner shot the albatross THINKING it was bad luck and he and his crew were cursed. basically, the albatross was good and innocent, was persecuted by the fearful/ignorant, and the bad fortune that followed was a result of their own poor choices though (in the song) still gets unjustly attributed to the albatross

@@elyse_myers the mariners were also lost at sea, and they saw the albatross and thought it was bad luck/maybe a sign of a bad storm coming. And actually the bird was a sign that land was nearby, and if they just followed the bird they would have been directed home safely. However, they did not trust the bird and killed it, loosing their only direction home and so they ended up dying at sea. I think about it in different ways, but it seems like she swept in to save the relationship/ save her man from the public on good faith and because of the person's mistrust/maybe the public mistrust she was shot down just like the albatross was in the story

Her vulnerability is such a two edged sword: fans connect so deeply but her critics get so much ammunition to drag her with. As a 56 yr old fan who cares about her beyond her art, I would support her decision to walk away from the madness after the Eras tour and try to find some happiness with Travis or whoever, it’s clear she wants to be married and I assume have a family life and as much as I would miss her art, this woman has given almost all of herself to the world for the sake of her art, I just want her to be truly loved and supported by a good partner. I don’t think she’ll ever stop creating but I want her to have the personal life she longs for.

The Manuscript is so important... She's basically telling us that she's giving all of her past to us, because we ideantify with her songs so well. She's ready to move on. She said in her posts that this chapter of her life is over, and the songs So High School and The Alchemy being about Travis and being the most upbeat and hopeful of the songs... they're where she's feeling her life is going now. The idea that before you can move on, you need to come to peace with your past (the only way to move forward is in looking back)... she's giving us all of this grief and pain and letting it go. It's beautiful. And healing. This is BY FAR my favorite album, and not just of hers, but of any album. It's so very real and beautiful, and sad, and despondent, and hopeful, and renewed. I so very much hope that she has now dealt with all this pain and can truly move on.

“Peter” I understand to be using Peter Pan as a metaphor for a boy she knew when they were both young, and agreed they’d get together when they were no longer kids and were old enough to do a relationship properly. But Wendy waited, and Peter never came back because he never grew up, “Lost to the Lost Boys era of your life”. (Parallels with Cardigan “Tried to change the ending, Peter losing Wendy”)

Probably more likely to reference Healy again. They briefly dated a decade ago but timing, tours, his “lost boy” behavior, etc kept them apart. He was 25 at the time (referenced in the song that he’d find her when he grew up) and she went on to date others (also referenced) but still thought of him (pretty much all of TTPD). And he blew it. Like in Cardigan, Peter is lost to the Lost Boys phase of his life, so he loses Wendy and she moves on.

The Bolter is my favorite! Mainly because I’m a bolter 😊 It’s the 13th track on Anthology for a reason. Bolting is something many people have criticized me for, but it’s always led me to bigger and better things. The one time I ignored my instincts and stayed in a situation despite the red flags, it was the worst experience of my life that literally almost unalived me (long story short a sugar beet processing plant gave a quarter of the town I lived in pre-cancer, and a few people actual cancer. I had to have 3 surgeries because the fumes were rotting my sinuses out of my face. They literally took out 3 of my teeth so they could drill in and drain the infection 😘 When I tried telling my boss, my doctor, and local friends something was wrong I was gaslit so much I began to think it was just migraines. 2 years later, the factory was sued into oblivion 🥰). So hearing a song celebrating bolters and encouraging escaping means everything to me. And seeing you cry to it made me cry to it in the best kind of way! 😭🥰😭🥰

Best ending ever. 😂 Exactly how i have been able to sum up my feelings towards this album so far lol. Btw, Elyse - about the last line of _The Manuscript_ where she says "but the story isn't mine anymore" ... When Taylor surprised us all with the double album 2 hours after the TTPD drop, she posted about it with a caption. The last line of her caption said "And now the story isn't mine anymore... It's all yours." She's repeated that line a couple other times since then if I'm remembering correctly. Idk how anyone can keep all this stuff straight, I just happened to make a personal connection with that line which is how I remembered it. She's an extremely talented fluffin' *genius* for creating the Swiftie Queendom™, let alone remembering everything enough to leave all the easter eggs!! Part ✌🏼 was even more fun/emotional than the first one! So happy you did this. Also glad to see I'm not the only one that's listening and saying "whats --- mean?? .... what is this about?!" 😅 I NEVER do that with music. My theory: because of the games she's created with Swifties, we are so much more tuned in to the lyrics and analyzing each song -- as opposed to other artists that give us no motivation to become as connected!! 🖤🩶🤍

I think the Albatross refers to how he’s put himself in a worse situation regarding paparazzi and media about his personal life because he’s with her and she refers to her “thoughtless heart” as her being thoughtless and selfish for wanting him and loving him even though it puts him in this position

Even knowing a touch more about some of the who’s and whats, there’s still sooooo many layers! Listening to these two is almost like reading a book while listening to an audiobook. You come across the lyrics and immediately have to start peeling back layers as the audio helps convey the scene cinematically. A whole ass 31 song journey hahaha

I see Robin as Taylor talking to her inner child. It can really be about any child though. You want to protect them from the truth “in sweetness” she says because the truth is the world actually sucks. She describes the child as having no regrets yet, they are blood thirsty basically saying they’re still eager for life. This song is so beautiful when it clicks.

The albatross is kind of like Peace but without the begging and bargaining😅 She’s basically saying she’s the Albatross in the beginning and she destroys all these men (says the media) but in the end travis chose her and all the terrible danger. He doesn’t care.

to be fair, that's what they all say. Joe said that too which is why he tried to keep them so private...
@rehlovely

@@ohifonlyx33 No, he tried to hide away from the danger, and always made her feel like the fame and media attention was too much. Travis faces it head on (shoots down the messengers), and she always has his back (swoops into the rescue) when the media/internet turns on him as well. Just like the drama over him chugging a beer at the New Heights "graduation" ceremony, and then a couple of days later she's wearing his New Heights ball cap at Coachella.
@ohifonlyx33
5 ай бұрын
@@rehlovely that's how it looks now, because Taylor is back in everyone's good graces. But when she was being snaked, Joe didn't care about her reputation and he protected her from the fame... she wanted to hide WITH him out in the Lakes. But she and Travis went public SO fast that people wouldn't be crazy to think they are dating for the press... And IF she and Travis are only together for PR, it makes perfect sense that they would support each other publicly. But seriously, he and Taylor went public SO fast. Time will tell.

Thank you SO MUCH for making these videos! I’m over here repeatedly bingeing The Anthology by myself, and crying about it, and there’s literally no one for me to share it with. Watching both parts of this video felt like sitting in my bedroom with my best friend and geeking out over it together. It was very cathartic and healing to feel like I had someone to revel in this album with. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. 💜

Someone may have already said this about The Manuscript….. but reminds of All Too Well short film. The actors hitting their marks and tears falling in synchronicity to the score. I also this she has found happiness and is closing the chapter of all the relationships she has had before ….. but understands what the agony had been for…. She’s ready to move on and be happy with someone who wants her for her and wants her company!

I loved watching you react to The Anthology!! Priceless reaction to So High School😂😂 also, I feel like The Manuscript kinda clicked for me so sharing my interpretation (hope it helps you piece something together). Taylor is reflecting on her past relationships and “the manuscript” is her music. Her “rereading the manuscript” is her reflecting on those relationships (especially now that she’s been re-recording) and “they compared their licenses” is maybe her/us comparing her exes. Each of the quotes in the song might be something a boyfriend said to her/a metaphor for a reason why they didn’t work out (e.g., if the sex was half as good as the conversations, we’d be pushing strollers = we were better as friends and didn’t have that physical connection?). She talks about wishing she was older and more grown up when dating older guys, but she dated guys her own age and she felt like she was too mature for them. To process and heal from the relationships, she obviously wrote about it and produced the ATWTMV short film. And now she understands what all the agony of her dating life was for (she grew, learned lessons, and it got her to Travis). All that’s left is the manuscript (her music) bc she’s put her past behind her now. She says the story isn’t mine anymore bc she used the songs to heal, and now she wants us to take the songs and relate them to our own lives (instead of hers) to do the same.

This album duo is so sad and cathartic. I know some are saying there isn’t much that’s radio worthy but to me I don’t think Taylor cares about that. This was like her burning her love letters moment. If you were to read all my poetry from my teens and 20’s it would read much like this. I loved listening with you!

I thought the same thing as well. I really think even before he heard the music they had these conversations about their past, and that's why he's so protective and respectful of her and her art. She seems so peaceful and safe with him physically and emotionally, and obviously trusts him implicitly.
