Stunted growth? Or is it that he didn't become the type of player that media, people, etc...wanted him to become. Expectations, busts, stunted growth, etc...these terms and labels come from folks wanting people to be 'who they want them to be', not who they are. @@rockfresh5359 a lot of turmoil for the Lakers that season. Gary Payton still thought he was prime Payton coming off the bench. Malone was in peak physical condition for his age, but battled injuries in the playoffs. Kobe and Shaq’s inability to play together boiled over that season. Kobe was dealing with his rape allegations during that season as well. I will go to my grave saying if Shaq and Kobe could have played together like Steph and Klay, or even Jordan and Pippen, the Spurs would have not been the dominant team they were in the 00s and 10s. The Lakers were just that good. However, for Kobe to blossom as who we truly know him as today, he needed to be the leader of his own team. No way he was going to fall back behind Shaq.
