Thanks Hiroshi, those are some excellent tips. One question, I have jagged rocks but I see that you have smoother rocks in your garden. Does the texture of the rock have to reflect on the type of landscape that you're creating?

Great Video, Do you have any videos behind the history of this art form or any therapeutic benefits it may have? I have heard it can be calming. Also What kind of sand is that? It looks more coarse than normal sand. Any suggestions on a good starter kit to buy? I don't have the means to build my own box. Not where I live right now.

I would suggest DIY. Start with an old cardboard box, cut it to desired depth. Wrap completely in masking tape, inside and out. Paint. I'm going to attempt this with a box top that I have. Just realized your comment is three years old 😆 you may have a solution by now.

i'd like to know the following: how are rocks oriented in relation to each other? uprights to horizontals. light vs dark colouring. groups of rocks in their orientations towards other groups of rocks nearby. how deep the uprights need to be buried in relation to their height. the angling of rocks towards or away from each other, and not just the what of it, but more important, why those choices are made. lastly, although there will be basic rules, how much of a part does intuition play in the juxtaposition of the rocks?
