I am a military history buff and the battle of the bulge is one of my favorite battles. Not that I enjoy war or people dying. I am just fascinated by the whole thing. From planning to the outcome. This particular battle is one of people’s grit and resolve to not give up. This short video doesn’t put into perspective just how perilous it was for the allies. The bravery and will to keep going when it seemed hopeless was amazing in this battle.

The 101st were a group of proud elite soldiers, of course they wouldn’t admit to it, but most historians say.. they would’ve suffered far more casualties it Patton never arrived, but comes to logic that either way the 101st would receive some backup since they were encircled. Don’t think Ike would’ve let that slide easily or any of the other US Army generals. I still believe they could’ve made good effort to fight off the Germans but with a much higher casualty rate not just by the Germans but the elements itself.

(Commenting before watching) There’s a guy who goes to my church who fought in this battle. He was pulling bodies over himself so he wouldn’t get shot.

What's amazing is that none of the soldiers from the 101st airborne admitted that they needed help/relieve in Bastogne. They were truly the Best Generation.

What people doesn't know that battle of Elsenborn Ridge was the vital battle that held the Germans in check, Siege of Bastogne was the icing on the cake but gets more attention.

Yes, the northern sector was far more important. And Montgomery had the brains to pull back from St Vith instead of getting surrounded there like at Bastogne.

My great grandfather participated in the battle of the bulge. He was captured by Germany. He went into the battle 6’1 over 200 pounds. Came out 5’11 and 180 pounds on double rations. He was never the same since.

I'm proud to say that my great-grandpa fought in this battle. He hated talking about it, and I only ever heard about it from other family members. He was wounded twice and received two purple hearts. My great grandpa still has his sleeve-torn uniform jacket, one of the bullets he was shot with, and many other belongings of his. He passed away on April 6, 2013. I cry now, but I know I'll be jumping for joy when I see him again in heaven. Love you, grandpa.
