“Jai Guru Deva, ॐ oṃ
Nothing's gonna change my world”
“No god, no guru, no one can change my world.”
This lyric is often translated that way.
However, if that were the case, even though the powerful message would be conveyed, I feel that the beautiful world view of the song would be ruined at the cost.
I don't think John necessarily asserts himself strongly.
I feel like I'm singing "Nothing's gonna change my world" in a state where my heart is closer to God or a guru, where I calm my mind and become one with nature.
In the first place, unless your world is in a state of selflessness, you will never be able to be “unmoved by anything.'”
I can also feel this atmosphere in the gentle sound of “ॐ oṃ” just before the song.
Everything in this world is impermanent. I believe that people's hearts and egos are similarly fragile and ephemeral.
If there is anything truly unchanging in this world, it would be something like the laws of nature that apply to all things.
In that sense, the phrase “Nothing’s gonna change my world” has a sense of fragility and loneliness amidst the strength.
John said this song may be my best work.
With a song of that caliber, this song should have been on the A-side of the single.
And, I think “The Inner Light” is the most appropriate B-side.
Had it been realized, it would have been the Beatles' most profound and coolest single.
I also think that "Hey Bulldog" should have been released as a double A-side single with "Lady Madonna" as John had hoped.
If that were the case, John's frustration with the Beatles and Paul would have been greatly suppressed.
It was natural for John to be disappointed in the Beatles when his most confident work wasn't even included as a single.
After Abbey Road, John's proposal to do “Cold Turkey” with the Beatles was rejected, which was a decisive blowback.
The situation surrounding the Beatles at the time was heavy, but for John, who still wanted to connect with them as a musician, this may have been the moment when the final thread was cut.
