President Kennedy had been assassinator about three months earlier. America was devastated and somehow had lost it's innocence. People were depressed and it was winter. Then out of nowhere, these energized funny talented guys show up with fun songs and cool accents. In a strange way, the Beatles arrived on our shores at just the right time. They gave us a lift. Walking home from 7th grade on a cold February Friday in 1964. My friend said, "Are you going to watch the Beetles? (I thought he was talking about the bugs). I looked at him, strangely, and said, Beetles? What Beetles? He said, "It's a band playing on Ed Sullivan"." I guess so", I said. I watched after dinner at my grandparents house with the family. My cousin Linda (3 years older, so, 16) was crying because she thought Ringo was cute. My mother thought Paul looked like a choir boy. The next Monday at school, that was all we talked about. Everyone knew John, Paul, George, and Ringo - The Beatles. The World changed that weekend.

Somehow she got on the subject of music. She kept saying how great Justin Bieber was, how she was going to see him in concert (she said he was on tour in Canada at the time), how she wanted to have his kids....just on and on. I didn't say anything. "He's going to make the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame," she said. I didn't say anything, but with some of the entertainers elected now he just might. It was February 9th a Sunday night and my birthday. Before 11 years old i can say life was rather nondescript, but on this night the whole world was going to change. Everyone was tuned into the Ed Sullivan Show. That evening Beatlemania was born. We were growing our hair out, buying anything Beatles, records, boots caps and anxiously awaiting the next hit. There was nothing else it seemed to talk about. The Beatles had become the soundtrack of my life. I feel so blessed to have lived through this phenomenon. On Sunday, February 9, 1964 The Beatles performed twice. Here is the reason: Brian Epstein had made a deal with Ed Sullivan that The Beatles would play on his show for 3 consecutive weeks. But there was a problem. The Beatles had to fly back to England on Saturday February 22, 1964 and wouldn't be able to appear the next day, February 23, 1964. So at 2:30pm on Sunday, February 9, 1964 about 700 people (mostly screaming girls) were let into Studio 50 and The Beatles preformed 3 songs live in front of that audience that was taped to be shown on the Sunday February 23, 1964 Sullivan Show to fulfill their contract. In that afternoon performance they did "Twist And Shout", "Please Please Me" and "I Want To Hold Your Hand". The audience was let out. The Beatles returned to their room at the Plaza Hotel. At 5pm they returned to Studio 50 and did a dress rehearsal for the 8pm show. Then they again returned to their hotel. They came back at around 7:30pm And at around 8:05pm performed live in front of a new audience of a little more than 700 people and for all America. Over 70 million people were tuned in to hear them play "All My Loving", "Till There Was You", and "She Loves You". Then other acts preformed. The Beatles came back in the second half of the show to do 2 more songs live. "I Saw Her Standing There" and "I Want To Hold Your Hand". John Lennon was never happy with this iconic performance for these reasons: Paul sang lead vocals on 3 of the 5 songs and the other 2 John sang in harmony with Paul. He felt that people watching would think that Paul was the leader of the group. He was right. When I watched the show as an 11 year old boy, I thought Paul was the leader. They even flashed his name first when putting the names under each Beatle. John was also unhappy about the fact his mic was too low in the mix.

Sadly I was only less than 3 months old when the lads made their debut on Ed’s show. So I probably slept through it. When you showed the crowd I wonder if any of them recognized themselves.

Their melancholy tunes were touching and memorable, but the up-tempo ones were my favorites. I was 10 when this aired. Little did we know we were experiencing something that would change the music and entertainment world forever.

The chord changes in this one happens SO DARN FAAAST ! lol Just finally worked 'em all out for myself - Key of E , naturally -- such a bright key, E ... ... It MEZMERIZES me, how Paul's SUCH an expert on all these changes, he doesn't even hafta look at his hands ONCE ... (A , F sharp min., C sharp min., A minor: back to E ...) etc. -- on all these rapid changes !!! Incredible ... and George and John - these luscious harmonies, eh, all?!! (THANK YOu always, GEORGE MARTIN, FOR WORKIN' 'EM ALL OUT AND ARRANGING '[EM, FOR THES 4 SUPER-POWERED SCOUSER LADS !!! ) -and Ringo's always PERFECT drums licks ... what an EXPLOSion they were ... !!! all through Hamburg and though rough, ruff, tough times ... These lads sure paid their dues. BEATLES FOREVER! ❤❤❤💗💓💙🙏
