Thanks for the in-depth info. My big box ehx small stone is wired like the behringer solina, so it may be the clone is backwards

I had an original Solina String Ensemble mark 1. The lack of attack (crescendo) for trumpet and horn is normal, the original has that too. I think Behringer has done an excellent job with recreating the sounds of the original, although they based it on the best one (imho): the mark 2. If you're interested in hearing the one I had you can search for the video called: 'Solina String Ensemble (mark 1) sound demo'

Can someone please explain to me why I'm lusting so heavily after this limited synth? I own some very capable synths, HYDRASYNTH being one of them. Nostalgic reasons... Joy Division , The Cure , Pink Floyd... I love this sound and know I can get it from other synths I own. I just want to run it through some of my experimental pedals... Why is my G.A.S so extreme with the Solina? Help me justify this purchase. I think its limitations are a big reason I lust for this machine...

There is something to be said for having a highly specialized tool. Did you end up getting one? Lol

@@kevinaaronson I purchased the Waldorf Streichfett, I am happy with it, but I do still think about the Behringer Solina once in a while.

@@kevinaaronson UVI has a sale on their String Machines 2 plugin. It's 61% OFF $39 (reg $99) I'm really digging it, having two ARPS and layering them is great.

Sounds great. It’s normally pronounced “so-lee-na”. I’d love to see a video comparing the VC340 to this. The ARP Omni had one of these plus an analog mono synth, used in Exile’s “Kiss You All Over” in the late 70s… that’s the song I always think of when I hear one of these machines. Styx’s “Come Sail Away” used the Solina, or something like it too.

I think this was the stringer used in Air's album Moon Safari, too.

I did see them using it during live videos for sure during that era and the album cherry blossom girl was on.

I love the old 70s string machines, and I think Behringer got the sound perfectly in this one. The thing is, I cannot justify buying a string machine when most poly synths can make good enough string patches and much more.

So don’t get it then, one more in the market for somebody who does.

Strymon pedal effects process sound really nicely. Combining this Solina with those pedals is euphoric sounding!

Fantasticker than the VC-340?.. Or, almost as fantastic? I only just started the vid, so I'm assuming you'll say in a bit🤣

You'll just have to do a video with both of them... maybe a pedal vid? (Both thru the same pedal)

@@YukiTheSynthDragonI just saw the end - a Logan replica would be the bees. I think the Logan label is more common in Europe, and the Hohner label is more common in N America. I'd love to hear the Solina and VC-340 back to back thru the same external fx. Even if you don't try to match the patches - just use what sounds you like best on each stringer.

How are you still enjoying the Solina a few months down the road? Too much of a one trick pony? Inspiration machine? Have you ever tried the Waldorf Streichfett?

Ended up selling it to clean up studio space. It is very much a one trick synth but it does sound good if you want that sound.
