It's time to ditch those freeze dried ice cream sandwiches because there's a new dessert contender in town.. and it's a heck of a lot cheaper than one of those pre-packaged meals you can buy at the outdoor stores. We need your help coming up with a name.. but for now we're calling this recipe "The Best Backpacking Dessert Four Ingredient Dessert Bars.. Ever" or for short "The Best Backpacking Dessert Bars.. Ever." Take this one backpacking, take this one camping, or simply make it at home.. You won't be disappointed with this one, and neither will the kids.
You get the point.. These things will rock your world and are so easy to make. All you need are Oreos, Marshmallows, some kind of nut butter, and a chocolate bar. It's very simple, and will be sure to give you that dessert fix after you get to camp from a long day on the trail. The price per entire dessert cooked in the video ranges from $1.29 to $3.23 depending on what nut butter you use. We opted for one of the Justin's Almond Butter Packets for this recipe, but if you use a serving out of a jar of Jif or Skippy peanut butter it will be way cheaper. (We really like to put crunchy peanut butter in ours)
This dessert meal can be prepared ahead of time before your trip, and all of the ingredients can easily be placed in a Freezer Zip-Loc Bag. Just take your little bag of ingredients backpacking or camping with you, and you're ready to cook the meal and eat it! We've been trying to dabble into our own backpacking food recipes to save on money and packaging, and this dessert is one of our new favorites that we've come up with.
