John was always my fav Beatle... His Plastic Ono Band lp is as beloved to me as any Beatle lp, with Working Class Hero, Isolation, Mother, God, and so much more as you describe! You censored yourself while discussing #13, George's solo, when you said, "He really went out there..." Are you referring to his devotion to Hinduism/HareKrishna there? I agree with your later statement (#11) that his spiritual beliefs actually contributed greatly to his post-Beatles work! I love Wonderwall, and would rank it above any Paul or Ringo solo effort! And I won't quibble about placing All Things Must Pass just before John Plastic Ono Band lp; it's a classic album... Speaking of Paul, I lost all interest in Sir Paul's work after '69, so can't really evaluate any of it now... His Silly Little Love Song says it all as far as I'm concerned, and not in a good way. And Ringo? A few fun hit songs, but not an oeuvre to assess IMO.

I loved hearing what your favorites are. I agree with so many of them. I would have to fit Tug Of War in there somewhere. It's so good and sentimental to me. Not sure I'd have the stamina to actually rank every single solo album,. Maybe someday...who knows?? I think Macca III would be somewhere in the middle right now. People sometimes tend to rank new albums higher than they might after some time. I like the record but still need to live with it for awhile. I Like Egypt Station better though.

Very tough to choose. As you said, it's personal. I love Paul McCartney Unplugged which I have on CD, bootleg? Egypt Station Flaming Pie Flowers In The Dirt , which had just come out the year I saw Paul. Snuck behind the stage with my friends unnoticed until he played Can't Buy Me Love. We lost it, Beatlemania. The bouncer tapped us on the shoulders and said follow me ladies!

But they have to have lived the time when it first came out. No Beatle type songs, but just good music and musicianship! ...By the way....I even liked Harrison's "Electronic Sound" album. Just subscribed to your channel… ATMP is my #1 with “Ram” being second. I keep alternating between Lennon’s first 2 REAL solo albums. So i kinda have to cheat and put them together…which is the reason why I don’t personally like to rank. And as for Paul’s BOTR album, i love it but this is an album that can’t decide if it wants “Helen Wheels” on it or not. Personally in my own humble opinion its not BOTR without it. I know thats not what Paul himself wanted but… give me a break! He mentions Sailor Sam in there, a character mentioned on the BOTR titletrack! GEESH! 😄 that’s a whole controversy in itself…

Really enjoyed your review. All Things Must Pass is my favorite album of all time and I have (I think) a fairly large music library (over 11,000 tracks) to base that on. So happy to see how appreciation for George Harrison has grown over the years. Man, the Beatles were special and revolutionary, but I doubt ATMP would have ever been recorded had they stayed together.

I know we're talking about Post-Beatles.... the fact we're debating these musicians in 2021... when they original library of music came out 51 years ago... just goes to show how hard their music hits with modern audiences. How their 60's library survived the ages is amazing all things considered. They're truly the modern Mozart, Chopin, or Beethoven to name a few.

I like the eccentricity of at least the McCartney choices. Those of the other three ex-Beatles are more obvious. For my taste, McCartney’s dozen or so albums since Flaming Pie would include one or two other top13 albums. Memory Almost Full, Egypt Station, McCartney lll, Chaos and Creation, Flaming Pie itself… Hard choice, but one of those at least would be in my top so and so.

Famously Rolling Stone deliberately turned sour on RAM and played up John Lennon. I love John, George and Ringo as much as their bass player... But I have always felt-since it came out-that RAM was a TOP Beatles solo album. Plastic Ono Band or Imagine? Hard to know which one to play first. And All Things Must Pass? Yeah, I love the Phil Spector influence on George's music. As well as the George's stories about the musicians in the studio playing a track, feeling good about it. Then going up to the booth and hearing Spector's mix and not recognizing the song at first hearing. But growing to love it later. Like we did all. However... I would call this segment "13 Best Beatle Solo Records on Apple Records." Except for the first album, "Cloud Nine" all the selections are pre-1975. The exception proves the rule...

Can’t argue with any of your choices. I like what you have to say each time I tune you in. I’ve always felt ‘I’d Have You Anytime’ was, in the verses, a John Lennon sort of feel. I disagree with you only on ‘Mamunia.’ I think of it almost like ‘Mucho Mungo.’ I can’t make a solo Beatles Top 10 now because I agree with this list so much. I’d have to fit in ‘Mind Games’ somehow, which would prevent me from a Top 10.

When Paul doesn't bother at all with lyrics he sometimes creates his best rockers. The lyrics are really there just to phonetically fit in as one with the raw energy. I don't think anyone has ever really understood this. Yes on other songs his lyrics have at times been woeful when they needed to be strong. But when it comes to rockers they don't really need to necessarily matter. So many fifties rockers had silly lyrics because they served to belt out the material. It is Paul being almost primeval. On albums like Wild Life it works. It's Tutti-Fruit- ing. It's Be-bop a Lula, It's sh-boom. It's words there for sound rather than meaning. And it has it's place in music.

One thing I had never noticed during The Beatles is how limited Paul McCartney's voice is. On his solo albums, he keeps writing songs in the wrong register for his voice, driving him into falsetto, the way Roger Waters forces himself into that annoying intermittent screech. I appreciate that Neil Young does the same thing, but somehow it doesn't matter in his case because his voice is always a high wire act whatever he is singing. As with Bob Dylan, you just give up and take it on its own terms.

Look, you are entitled to like what you like, but if you are going to make a "Best Of" list and put "Wild Life" above all of Paul's other output except for "Ram," then you have lost all ability to be objective (or just not interested in being objective) and shouldn't be making these lists, since they will just be a waste of time. Otherwise, change the title of the videos to "My Personal Favorites of..." and then we can consider whether it is worth viewing them or not.

Funny I, earlier today, had "My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts" on the turntable and thought wouldn't "Wonderwall Music" make for a nice follow? One of my favorite George albums and one I've not spun often enough of late. Possibly my favorite solo Beatles album cover too for whatever that's worth. Was surprised, delightedly so, by its appearance in your ranking. Nor do I disagree on your "Wild Life" take, an album I detested once but quite love now. Shocked though that "Ringo the 4th" didn't top the poll but "ATMP" is swell too I suppose. Seriously though, the "Egg's' omission stung somewhat. Interesting, in the best of ways, video.

The solo albums were literally doomed to fail from the start as everyone wanted the Beatles singing anything good... It's like BEING type cast because you play a role so good no one wants you or believes you in another...... Together The vocals would be better , the instrumental would or could be BETTER or unchanged and the songs themselves written even better... And the non material factor would be the group itself

I think the Spector production issue was started by George when in the booklet of the reissue in 2001 of All Things Must Pass he said he'd like to "liberate some of the songs from the big production that seemed appropriate at the time, but now seem over the top with the reverb wall of sound", I feel some have jumped on that and it's become normal for fans to criticise the Spectorisation because of George's comment. As for your list mine would differ a little but I wouldn't argue over it. Wild Life's inclusion I was expecting, I can see why you have it there as I do agree the production hasn't dated because there's no gimmicks for it to do so.

@@mazzysmusic John said a lot of crap about the Beatles music. :) If he had rerecorded them I bet 10 years down the line he would've said the same thing again about them.

I personally never liked Spector's production, even before George's comment. Busy, and noisy, particularly the electric tunes., Wah Wah and Let It Down in particular, being the worst. for me. Hearing the "clean ", un Spectorized early takes on the bootlegs only reinforced my dislike of Spector's work. BTW, I love Wonderwall as well, Mazzy .

@@750drums Yeah, I've felt that way about Spector since the first time I heard ATMP, (which was when it was released). His early work was fantastic with the girl groups and all...but not the Beatles stuff.

Just bought the Archive Collection of Wild Life. Agree with your opinion. Band on the Run is a bit to pop-ish.

Double Fantasy drives me crazy! I love the John songs and hate the Yoko songs. I can't play that record.

Harrison had almost 30 musicians on 'all things', and not any musicians either, stretches the concept of a solo album. As a result, I thought it was totally overproduced. Its also the least Beatles sounding album of the great solo albums.

Ah there‘s just no timestamp for Imagine! First thought it wasn‘t even on your list and was wondering why there were no complaints in the comments 😀

Love the inclusion of Electric Arguments - easily Paul’s best album post-Flaming Pie. Your top 3 choices are spot-on.

Yes, Photograph is a good song, but it's to long. It's way to long! Nothing happends in the last minutes and you can easily cut away one and a half minute.

IMHO the Beatles have 4-5 albums that no solo Beatle effort can touch. The combo of those 4 men was magic.

Do you have a subscription to the magazine "Beatlefan"? If so, you would probably already know what I am going to tell you. There is a write up on your channel on page 6. Two months ago, they wrote a column with a few KZitem Beatle channels recommended. I wrote to them and told them about your channel. I received the latest copy a week ago - as I was reading through it, I saw my name in dark bold print which was a bit startling for a couple seconds. They were thanking me for sending in the info on your channel. They did a short write up about it - mentioned your Vinyl series and your unique way of reviewing Mac 111. I can take a picture of the write up and send it to you if you want to give me an email address to send it to - or I could friend you on Facebook and send it through the messenger area. I have always loved Ram - and I have such a fond memory of it as well. I drove to college in Sept 1971 to live on campus so it was the first time moving away from home. I was playing Ram on 8 track as I followed my parents in their vehicle. I love your Dark Horse shirt - I was thinking of buying one, but I have SO many Beatle tshirts already!

I will send you a friend request - my name is Kathy. I will probably send the write up tomorrow. I am groggy feeling today since I had my Covid #2 shot yesterday.
