Great review. There are two mods IMO that are MANDATORY if you buy this version of the pedals. Mine had a lot of friction and weren't as smooth as I was hoping they would be. Here are two fixes that create a night and day difference. 1. Remove the damper and sand down for 10-20 seconds with a light grit on the black plastic washers that mount the damper to the front of the pedal. these don't have great tolerances so making sure this isn't over tight and can move freely is key. if there is extra play just add some preload to the damper by pushing on the back of the damper and tightening it in place already activated. 2. This is THE single most important mod you can do take the two bolts out that hold the pedal to the base where the bearings are, pull this up and there will be a washer on the outside of the arm and bearing, but between that and the base. REMOVE all of these, two per pedal, on all pedals. This Removes ALL FRICTION this is a night and day change and will completely change the pedal feel.
@strangerdanger1012

I'm planning on picking these up to try and compare. Are you talking about the washers next to the bearing seen around 0:52 ... looks like it's a bearing insert and then there are washers sandwiched between the bearing and side plate. If so I can see why you say it will smoothen it if you remove the friction, my question is that isn't that washer keeping the pedal from moving left/right or laterally? I read another review on Reddit recently... .kinda make it sound like best option is to take the pedals apart, fix the tolerances, grease things up and then reassemble to really make them work. Before I do that, would you agree?
@TheCostprice

^These are the suggestions Ghost Sim Racing made in the Slim jack group, but then later said the washer mod in(2) is not the solution and you need a custom washer that only touches the inner race

@BMXAceCA

@@TheCostprice It depends on what you are looking for, in his case he wants to sell a product of higher quality than the stock UT pedals so adding play or sloppy tolerances is against his philosophy in a sense. And yes Taylor is awesome in sharing qc issues and fixes on SimJack pedals and these both came from him. However it’s really not an issue in the video he shows how the whole pedal arm can go side to side, well you don’t use it like that, you use it with the guide rods and dampers attached, with these attached it prevents the pedals from being able to slide from side to side, both benefiting from the reduction in friction and when using with the damper as well it really adds almost no side to side play. It’s insanely easy to try just take the washers out and put them back in if you don’t like it. But I bet you don’t put them back in. Yes ideally a small shim or washer that doesn’t contact both pivot points would be ideal, but for me this was good enough and got the pedals feeling basically as smooth and good as some HE pedals I tried at microcenter. I still think I want to add some ptfe lube at a couple points, but the way I have them setup I am extremely happy and the value is unmatched.

I asked this on the other video and I appreciate the measurements of the pedal sizes, but I don't know this off the top of my head. With these measurements did it fit the pre-installed/pre-made mounting plate? I am asking since I'd have to get a pedal plate redrilled (my own) or make a mount for anything that is similar to heusinkveld. It's a cheap cost, in reality, but I'm trying to map out my steps on getting a pedal set upgrade. They look amazing and have been on my radar for a while, as are most things from Simjack at the moment. (edit for clarity: I ask this cause it seems you mounted it on your wooden pedal stand that you have used in other reviews of similar fully mechanical pedal sets. I don't recall how you drilled the spacing on those, so I'm just trying to get measurements for them so I can send it into my company that drills the holes, or if that info for drilling is available or similar to an other more "common" set of pedals. Sorry for the confusing and kinda dumb question).
@Chader9
2 ай бұрын
He does have a wooden heel plate, but the pedals are mounted to extruded aluminum with angle connectors. See that foundation form his desk video shots, but also seen in the rig shots with them in use. Just check out the sections of the vid with close shots of the pedals in use like starts around 8:53. All that to say that he uses the wide adjustment options of the aluminum profiles along with those in the pedal frame, without specific mounting hole spacing. Considering that the pedals have included large amounts of fore-aft slot adjustment range, the key for any user is to determine their preferred lateral spacing between pedals. This will be highly individual (personal preference along with car sim considerations) and potentially rig specific.
@SimRacingCorner
2 ай бұрын
This is the pedal deck I'm using kzitem.info/news/bejne/uYmMqmZmb3eJenY. To get the spacing plotted, you're best off getting the pedals first and laying them in place and marking the spots for the holes.

I need to get pictures for inclusion with my review on the Ali site. I expect I can fix it by loosening all the mounting fasteners, aligning it all square and then tightening appropriately. Not the end of the world, but less than ideal to send out parts so terribly misaligned. And I am certain this was not shipping related damage because the box arrived in perfect condition.
