Dear Ken, just bought my first original Blue Note - Moods by The 3 Sounds, and I have you to blame for that - and its absolutely fantastic! I knew the music from Spotify but this is a completely different experience... It sounds great and swings like hell. It's also wonderful to be part of that history by holding an actual original. And it showed me again how carefully crafted the Tone Poet series really is, when I compare them to an original. So thanks for inspiring me and greetings from Vienna, Austria!

Late comment here: When I first heard Mr Kenyatta on Lee Morgan's Search For The New Land, My First thought was This is the best sounding Blue Note record I ever heard....Something about the the audio quality and how it made me feel. I felt I was in the studio watching them record live. This is not my favorite Blue Note album by any means..But for audio quality it's still the number one IMO

Hey Ken, like your vibe. I found you today and watched a half a dozen of your jazz music selections, plus your take on the albums you like or the one's we should check out. I am new to jazz and only 7 years in. A lot to learn and get in the groove. Sometimes it will take me many times to listen till I get it, but when I do it is worth it. Thanks for all that you do and share. Spokane Splotch says good night and keep spinning........PS. As I found my first Blue Note mono, I allow myself to post my thoughts. I heard now an old mono, some Liberty, some Japan, some DMM, Tone Poets, 75 and 80´s anniversary. Yes, the mono has the most power, they jump out of the speakers like nothing, but to me it is a little to much, for my taste I like the Liberty more. The old mono is obviously mastered for older stereos, I think this is main reason that they have so much upper mid and highs, for my taste? I like the mono thing, but the power is to much for me and I am a musician myself and I also have some Heavy Metal records in my collection:-)

Hey Ken, do you find these old Blue Note originals to play best on simple Conical or Elliptical Styli or finer Shibata, Microline or Paratrace profiles? I value record preservation over sound so I use the finer types but they do seem to introduce more surface noise generally.

Lovin the videos mate. Quick question, i need to buy a replacement A Love Supreme but without breaking the bank what are the better reissues ? I’m getting a lot of Audio Clarity pressings, are they bad ? Thanks.
@kenmicallefjazzvinylaudiop6455
3 жыл бұрын
I have not heard those pressings, but discogs says it's a "Russian bootleg label that releases unauthorized reissues." Cut from CDs. But are you happy with the pressings? That's all that matters, though you would hear more of the actual recording details with a better pressing. For 15 more than an Audio Clarity pressing, this is a GRP pressing that I think is all analog, www.ebay.com/itm/JOHN-COLTRANE-A-LOVE-SUPREME-Impulse-GR-155-Limited-Edition/363292302527?hash=item5495e89cbf:g:3xkAAOSwLIhgFcI-
