Gale was absolutely my "Swiss Army" character in my recent HM completion. He carried a bag with every scroll I had found in the game, ensuring that even if I was out of spell slots I had plenty of spells for him to be useful. In the final battle he practically won it for me and didn't even have to blow himself up.

One thing I was surprised you didn't mention in the cantrip selection section is that, unlike PNP D&D, in BG3 there are scrolls of four of the wizard cantrips that can be scribed to permanently add another cantrip. Firebolt and Ray of Frost in particular are pretty common in Act 1, they can randomly spawn all over the place including for sale at vendors, including the very first vendor you meet in the druid grove. Chill touch and shocking grasp scrolls also exist though in my experience are rarer, but still I don't think I've ever finished Act 1 without coming across at least one of each of the four. This means you can respec at Withers as soon as you find that scroll of Ray of Frost to learn an extra utility cantrip instead, and can learn the other three cantrips as well at really no cost beyond the 50 gp scribing cost.

I took your advice on my last playthrough and ran Gale as a divination wizard and I have to say, it really was fun. I loved portent dice pop ups as well as the ability to regain them through spells (I like how you refer to that as a mini game, you’re absolutely right). I like the idea of Abjuration too, but setting it up every Long Rest, costing you multiple spell slots or short rests and the ranged enemies focusing on your wizard because of the low AC makes it a very hit or miss for me. @@kimashitawa8113if you take a single level in cleric for heavy armor it solves the low ac issue. i found that with damage resistance of warding bond and arcane ward the enemies wont attack you because they will do no damage to you. to fix this you have to purposely take attacks of opportunity to deal damage with armor of agathis. that build is honesly best for solo runs as the enemies will target your friends instead, if you are the only target and the enemy cant do damage to you even with a hit the ai kind of just breaks and they will just stare at you and skip their turn

Dear sir, Though I consistently agree with your builds I must point out a potential problem with this one. I believe that the use of the cold cantrip is not outweighed by the use of the fire cantrip. More often than the "attempt" to slow enemies down or render them inactive in combat; the penalties received for lighting or now having well lit conditions are more often and much more debilitating to a whole party than only one small group. Firebolt has a versatility that is greater. Tell me your thoughts. I watch your guides a lot. Thank you for what you do. Keep making great content.

Have you ever made any odd multiclass like making a wizard and a monk together, I bring that up because you mentioned it as an example but it got me thinking if they could work (never tried such a combo before) and it really does seem like an odd combination, Wizard is intellect when Monk is Dexterity, If I multiclass I always like use classes that use the same main abilities like Paladin/Barbarian/Fighter for example, that way your abilities aren't spread out so much (even though that's not always the case), some muliclasses just feel like they go together like Wizard/Sorcerer/Warlock, anyway, maybe you can recommend one of your vids that may be considered an odd combo, I would really like to try something different, plus I will have your guide to help me out.💯👍

Haven't yet seen the FULL video, as it is long, but a hint for anything that does not have access to armor proficiency, take dual wield at lvl4 and bracers of defense as gloves. This gives you a solid +3AC, which helps a ton in the earlier game. You can dual wield something like spellsparkler and like melfs first staff or something. With mage armor on top of that, a wizard has 13 (MA) + 2 (bracers) +1 (DW) +2 (Dex) for a clean 18 AC. Not bad for a 'squishy' caster :)

@@thomasrosendahl2783 He'll pretty much kill any character if you're taking him on at that level, but as I say - many ways to build abjuration wizard, and any character in this game. I generally always go with a build that incorporates heavy armour early on and going 1 level fighter or war cleric is best early on. Reason I say war cleric is you get heavy armour and it's a class that allows multi-attack, which benefits certain builds of abjuration wizard, particularly if adding 2 levels Paladin. Abjuration wizard offers so much flexibility. The most OP function of BG3 is that you can pretty much respec at any time and so you can always change to tempest cleric later, but war cleric offers more early on

For Gale, for most of the game you'll be better off just wearing light armor since he has access to it - a shield is also usually better than the bracers, since that frees up your glove slot and they can have very powerful magic effects.
