If I understood this video correctly : - Alpine carries on with its engine : it looks bad for Alpine because they'll cock it up - Alpine purchases another engine : it looks bad for Alpine because they have to pay for it. @blasecorrea8350

Realistically, switching to a Mercedes engine is probably the best idea alpine has had since signing gasly. Mercedes track record (no pun intended) with engine performance is top tier, alpine won’t have to dump money into engine development giving them finances for other areas, and the pressure of being a works team is off their backs. Williams is obviously a long time customer of Mercedes, but money makes the difference. Look at Aston Martin, a much better comparison. They joined F1 fairly recently and already outperform Williams by leaps and bounds. I thought the idea was weird at first but it’s actually pretty smart.

Alpine's biggest problem isn't their PU, it's their upper management. And don't be fooled here they actually don't want to give up their engine program, the MB supply deal if it happens is just a money saving stop gap while they work on the proposed 2030 engine regs in the background IMHO.

Right now VW should be concerned about getting more of their other engineers from Bugatti, Lamborghini and Porsche (Maybe even ask Rimac nicely for an EV engineer or two) into the Audi brain trust to make a great engineering team and not on an expensive driver who's going to be eating into their budget cap by wrecking cars trying to prove something in on track battles. The battle for wins can come later once they have a good base in the sport and can get high mid field, low front runner on engineering talent alone.

Of the remaining seats, Williams is the team with major investment from Dorilton, Sauber is in a holding pattern waiting for an Audi takeover, and Alpine are a recurring shit show. For Sainz not to see the potential at Williams - especially under Vowles and partnered with Albon - says a lot about how he rates himself. If he really was that in demand, Mercedes would have signed him the moment Hamilton announced he was moving. As much as I'm a fan of Theo's, he was a Vasseur/Sauber project and now that Audi calls all the shots and Vasseur is no longer there, there's nothing tying him to the team. They may as well sign Drugovich who rinsed Theo if they want a 3rd season F2 champion and even that is a far shout of what Audi needs for its ambitions.

Renault.....an automobile manufacturer who cant make a good engine, go figure. French I guess......ok here´s a curve ball for everyone to consider.........Daniel Ricciardo, Christian Horners apparent lovechild takes Checo´s seat and Sainz goes to RB.......hear me out........Sainz wont be promoted to the Red Bull team as long as Max is there, so bringing his mega sponsors and making him No 1 in VCARB until Max goes (retires, sabbatical or changes team) and then he goes to Red Bull.

Imo Alpine should go back to Renault branding, alpine is just tragic, no one believes in it, Renault has actual racing prestige and they need to get a junior in, what’s the point in their Renault driver academy, they should put Jack Dooan in imo Engine wise, idk, if they can make an engine they are sure is going to be the best, do it, because then they’d get customers, if not, yh.. bin it

There could be bigger things at play also holding up Sainz’ decision. With all the consolidation that has occurred in the manufacturer market, could Mercedes join the Renault/Nissan/Mitsubishi alliance? Think about it before you dismiss it. None of the three have a viable luxury brand. Infinity never took off like Lexus. That would be Mercedes. The Merc X-Class is basically a Nissan Navara. All four do commercial vehicles leading to synergies and cost savings. Then Alpine using AMG engines makes a whole lot of sense but right now it seems like little brother (Alpine) has just told big brother (Renault) that “your engines suck”. Which is exactly what Red Bull said. I can’t blame any of them. It’s true.

Sainz is a fool. He makes 9.4mil with Ferrari this year, Checo makes 20.6mil. Sainz had a chance to more money than he's getting this year and be in a Red Bull, possibly winning either title. Even an offer below Checo's salary would have been a raise for Carlos. Instead he apparently wanted the larger offers from Sauber and Williams? Why?! Win big with Red Bull and then max your earnings. I'm calling it now. He's never winning a championship. Might even end up Ricciardo 2.0.

Seams like alot of people have forgotten that Mercedes required permission from FIA to take on Mclaren as a customer team from when they ditched Honda a couple of years ago and seams less likely that they get it again when there is new engine manufacturers in 2026. As the rules state "Unless agreed otherwise by the FIA, each of the PU Manufacturers of an homologated PU may not directly or indirectly supply PUs for more than (T+1) teams, with T as defined in Article 1.2.2." (T=works team basically) If Renault stop using their own engine Honda seams the most likely manufacturer to be forced to supply Alpine as they have probably the capacity, but the rules says that if multiple suppliers are on the same level the decision might end up on a simple pull of ballot if required.

Alpine makes really no sense. If it's for the Mercedes engine he already has that in Williams, if it's for the long term project, Vowels is making that happened. For the sanity and mind perspective, the environment in Sauber or Williams is better than Alpine- Renault. NO SENSE AT ALL

Sainz needs to just man the f up and make a decision. Is he waiting for one of the teams to suddenly pull out a magic ticket to being an instant championship contender? It's not gonna happen. The truth is he doesn't have any good options so it doesn't really even matter where he goes because he'll be looking to move up as soon as there's another vacancy in a top of the pack team in a couple years.

Translation: Renault/Alpine/Nissan will be selling the team as soon as a reliable driver is inked. This looks very much as a Hyundai, Cadillac or other deal by the back door. It would indeed make sense for Renault/Alpine/Nissan to concentrate on WEC which is emerging as a serious competitor to F1 as run by Liberty despite the engine cooking at LM this year. Heaven only knows why FB is involved. He brought nothing but disaster to Renault in the past. Presumably he has got himself involved somewhere.

I wish Alpine would work with Honda for the 2026 PU. Alpine will never win a championship with a Mercedes engine as long as Mercedes is also a constructor and McLaren has a seat at the table. Ideally Renault (Alpine) and Nissan (using the Infiniti brand) would work on the next PU and share the cost with Infiniti/Nissan getting some sponsor space on the car.

Alpine will get sold. Sainz "should" go to RB, but that wont happen becuse of MX sponsorship and Jos. His best move is to Mercedes for 2 years. Sweet justice would be Lewis sh!tting the bed at Ferrari. (Good chance of this too). Lol

Mercedes engine is not an option for 2026 for Alpine, FIA regulations state that "engine customers" needs to be distributed evenly, as Merc has already Mclaren and Williams, Ferrari has Haas, Redbull will have their own for both teams, Aston will have Honda. Audi will have their own. So the Alpine can only become a customer for Honda or Audi. As Audi engine will be brand new and no history, the only option would be to become a customer of Aston-Honda

The F1 media are always itching for a story, a scoop, whatever. Carlos isn't obligated to make an early call just because there have been a few announcements that are by tradition, early. Summer break is the usual time. Carlos is giving time for stuff to shake out - there probably won't be any seismic changes now but going from Ferrari to....... (name your choice of hopeless teams that barely deserve the title "midfielder") With the 2026 season being a time of reckoning why would he not take a years sabbatical, there isn't a team available that wouldn't destroy his reputation and yield zero chance of points let alone podiums.

For the good of the sport I hope Ocon gets a seat on his couch. No team should sign him, he's clearly toxic and probably was forced down Alpines throat by Toto Wolff. I think Sainz's best option would be Williams since he knows they'll have a Merc engine, plus they are at the bottom so if he does well he'll look like a hero which might open up a seat further up the grid for him. I'm wondering who will pair with Ollie Bearman at Haas? Will Merc risk giving Antonelli their other seat after such a middling performance so far in F2?

"Getting frustrated with this story's endless twists and turns", are you? Pull the other one. Isn't this the kind of drama you thrive on and look how much content you've created over the last 5 months from it. I'm sure you'd have much preferred Sainz to have picked his seat (like they were all his to choose) the day after Hamilton to Ferrari was 'announced' and be rubbing your hands at every driver switching teams within two weeks like solving an F1 Rubik' cube.

@billygoat520 0 seconds ago What has gone wrong with Sainz's career trajectory, I guess it was when he was blind sided by Ferrari hiring HAM in the twilight of his career. Now he has to sign with a bottom of the barrel team. I would sign with Audi because they are more likely to be competitive in the future. Maybe Audi will build a diesel powered car as they did to win Le Mans, that is a bit of a joke. The bottom line is that a driver with Carlos' talent should not be in this position. I think Williams is a joke and will be for years to come.

I wouldn't go near the Alpine team, with or without Mercedes power. It seems very clear to me that the management structure is very poor, or bordering on incompetent - and that has affected the whole team. That kind of structural instability would set alarm bells ringing for me. OTOH, it seems that Williams have a decent structure in place, but perhaps not a great design team yet (at least measured on performance). Sauber are a very competent team, but I suppose the Audi PU is a bit unknown.

If renault needs another works team engine they might as well close shop entirely... I think all the talk about engine power is overblown and they all are into diminishing returns at this point. Redbull is dominating with an engine they didn't even design themselves, supplied by an OEM that already exited F1, while Williams is a backmarker team with a current merc engine lol...

The question everyone should ask themselves Is Alpine's poor performance due to their engines? Just look at the current performance of Williams. The motor is a not a magic bullet that can make a team fast. And if we are only speaking of the forthcoming 2026 powertrains, why does everyone think that the Merc is going to be the absolute fastest? Where is the proof?

Why would Alpine getting a Merc engine make it more attractive than Williams? They'd be both using the same engine, but Williams seem to be committed to F1 and want to invest. Williams are behind where they need to be in investment, but so are Alpine after under-investment in the Endstone team under prior management and new management hasn't really stepped that up. It just doesn't make sense to me that Alpine maybe getting a Merc engine would be realistically attractive. This feels like stalling for other options, or Alpine must be making some serious money offer to Sainz.
