Saturday the 22nd of February 2020 was a particularly good day. For the first time in months the Blue train had arrived on time at Pretoria station. I arrived just in time to film its arrival from Cape town with class 34 diesel locomotives coupled to the train together with the usual 20E locomotives.
The diesel locomotives coupled to the train at Germiston then hauled it the rest of the way to Pretoria station due there being no overhead cables as a result of increased cable theft in Gauteng. From there the diesel locomotives carried out their usual duty of turning the train at the loop at Koedoespoort before taking it home to its depot named the Blue Train shed.
I managed to film most of the turning process apart from the train being actually turned. I'd very much like to film that one day.
