I was cornered at 3am, just outside of Penn Station NYC, by 4 homeless guys... with all my luggage too! I was on my 1st trip to Thailand. I was actually stuck at Penn Station durring the 9/11 attack on NYC.. Air lines were shut down, I was waiting for subway to start up again... I boarded the train at 5am that Sunday after 9/11, that train to JFK Airport, went right under that world trade center destruction... we stopped for a moment of silence... tears everywhere. I was on the first flight out of JFK to Bankok. JFK was empty, I was standing there alone going through check in... sorry I post so much Mark, your stories are always pushing my memory buttons.

@whyhellotherewithdrmarksabean Ok, uou asked for it.... lol. Right now, I'm stuck here in USA raising my last 2 teenagers; I've worked very hard my whole life building and running my small business CNC Machine Shop, all my time and money went into that business, and raising paying to raise 6 children, and paying 18years of child support to Ex-American-wife 😬,so little time and no money left for myself. At least while running my business for past 20 years, that gave me my Freedom from being under the thumb of employers and A-hole Bosses. Now I'm beginning the process of focusing on me. Your Thailand stories help to educate me more on Thailand, as well as help keep me focused on my dreams and goals; my Thailand retirement. I'm not a rich man, in fact I'm left with nothing fue to being hit with some medical issues that forced me to lose my business. My Thai wife financially supports me now... lol. Luck for me, when the time comes, hopefully in 2-3 years, I can live well enough in Thailand just on my Social Security... when it's finally my turn to Live My Best Life👍

Hey mate I will agree with you however again as I said in the video I don't have a problem being charged more than a local person does going to a national park because I'm there as a tourist my Taurus dollars are going to go a long way to help support that and also I truly believe it's important for local people to have access to museums and Parks so that they can learn about their history.... Keep in mind that you know a local Thai person couldn't afford to spend 400 Baht to go to a park.... What offends me is when I go to again a small little store where there's no prices they automatically charge me extra... If I go to a produce vendor they always charge me extra... There are some places that charge me the regular price and they treat me fantastic and those are the ones that I give my money to.... Cheers mate 🍻

Brigitte L Jones. Mark you give great advice about the whole spectrum of Thailand experiences to be had . You indicate some of these these can be achieved through having regular holidays, rather than taking on a serious move to another country. Love how you very clearly signal that if retiring or living there better not be a default move inspired by stuffing up finances and relationships at home as you won't be rid of the source of your problems - yourself! For the right people and at their appropriate stage of life, this move can be great. I'd have loved Thailand for holidays and culture when younger and fit. Heat & humidity, bugs, creepy crawlies, snakes, perceived as aged and no longer relevant by Thais, surely should make a hell of a retirement. Yet this is compensated for some old men. Starting each day with a lewd smirk at the Thai bar girls, then drinking till totally trashed each day, oblivious to everything, wrapt to be free to live in an alcoholic's paradise (where no one knows your name).

Why hello again Dr. Marc…… Jazlyn here………… It does seem that there are downsides to living in Thailand and I might be able to help you on a few of these problems………………………….……………………….. before the humidity problem and electronics and other fragile things that don’t like humidity you might rig up a desiccator box with bulk desiccator which would be a lot cheaper than the little packets………………………… I just replaced my bicycle tire and noticed that it was made in Thailand so if you have a bike and need a tire you might be able to find a cheap one without duty tax…………………….. The bug problem might not be pleasant but there are a few things you can do about it…… One, instead of fighting them how about start collecting them and identifying them so when you see when you might get a little bit excited about seeing particular ones.…… Two, I know in some parts of the world they breed a miniature cat the size of a hamster that at night hunts cockroaches and other insects about that size. From eating all the proteins from the insects they have really strong muscles and really good skin and if you shaved off some of their hair you would find that they don’t have any wrinkles!………………………… Foreign prices? No that sounds like a hassle if you’re trying to stay on your budget and just the unfairness of it. Now this is a situation where you fight fire with fire by getting one of those rubber masks of a Asian and slipping that on every time you’re buying something. Along with the mask, carry along a little bag of Asian accessories that might add to your disguise……………………………………………………………….. if you don’t wanna pay for a national park there are a few things you can do. Just like houses most parks have a back or side door that is left open and anybody can enter. Another way to see the park is to stop at the parking lot and don’t enter but launch your drone and explore the park that way from the tailgate of your car and as you’re checking out the park you can have a beer which if you were hiking it would be hard to do. ………………. I have to watch the rest of this later because it is quite long…… One item that I thought you would mention by now that is quite irritating for foreigners living in Thailand is the small Asian condoms that are usually the only ones for sale.……

I was married to two different American women, before I married a Thai woman. There's comparison. American women will destroy you with the system, especially when kids are involved. My Thai lady is an amazing, strong willed, very ethical, religious and yes a very beautiful person both inside and out; she's made me a much better man, I'm lucky to have found her. I good friend of mine who was also married to an American nightmare, was miserable living in that relationship. I told him life to short to be miserable, fu$k the money lost in divorce, give her the house, pay you child support (as I did) and move on. I also showed him a picture of one my wife's good single friends... I said: file for divorce and pursue a new life for yourself. I knew my wife's friend, and as is my wife; she too is a well educated, morally grounded, religious, etc. thai lady and yes quite beautiful as well. My friend and her have been happily married for around 15 years now, and they have a beautiful girl together; they're both brought so much happiness into his life. His wife and life now is an emotional 10, as compared to the miserable existence he once had. Through my wifes many friends here in the Boston area, and at our local Thai Temple next town over in Randolph, Massachusetts, I've met many wonderful Thais, ans many very happy American men that have married Thais.

My point is everywhere on earth is pretty much the same. You find out if you travel extensively. Many Westerners who choose to stay long in Thailand are not avid travellers. They only compare with the home country. Just make the best of where you are and what you are. Most of these people can go back home, if they choose, too. In fact, some Westerners choose to die here lately. They don't have close family member or friend back home. Thailand is becoming the Farang dumping pit😅

Once the covid extensions ran out I just started leaving the country every 60 days and coming back.... I don't do border runs as a matter of fact I've only done a border run once and that was to make a video about it... What I do is I travel to other countries I go to different places that I love I have adventures and then I come back to my little slice of paradise.... Hello Mark, Wow, sorry to hear about the situation with your mother. That was very selfish of your brothers to ditch you like that without any proper communication. This is definitely the thing that hesitates me a bit about wanting to come here. The fact that they expect you to pay for everything, all because of your skin colour. I bet even if you were naturalized (became a Thai citizen) and spoke fluent Thai as a foreigner, you would still be taken advantage of. I could only imagine if I was in a situation, where a family member of my Thai girlfriend was about to die (can even be faked), and then the ask for 1 million baht or something absurd, and that if I don’t pay it, they would shame me on social media, or threaten to hurt or arrest me. This is why it is extremely important to make your terms very clear at the start of the relationship, and even that can just exit the ear and be forgotten. As for the bugs, yeah I might have a problem with this too. When I looked online, I’ve gotten some mixed responses with some people getting cockroaches and some people not. I think it’s just based on luck. And bugs in laptops? Not to mention mosquitoes and all the diseases. Also imagine taking a dump and then a snake comes out of the toilet and bites you down there… Honestly your videos are extremely informative, and I’d say you’re really smart and the exact opposite of an idiot, but I understand it’s just a joke. Keep it up man!

@Mark I don't know what kind of doctor you are, but you sure don't know much about life. How can you even be in Thailand for 3 years, when you are so frustrated? I guess you never heard of red flags : tours and temples and taxi drivers and tuk tuks and women. I've been to Thailand 10 times, each time spending a month or two and I have enough common sense not to put myself in situations where I am going to be scammed. I don't go to bars or deal with bar girls. I go to clubs, in Bangkok where I meet women that have regular jobs or I pick up a woman that I meet at a regular job. I don't pay for her family and if she brings others to our date, that I am not expecting, I just tell them to take a hike. I find and communicate with women that can speak some English. I avoid rural areas and usually stay in Thailand's biggest cities, usually at the same place in each city or Island, I know the local area around where I stay and I will eat street food and know how much it costs and do not pay more than locals. Skewered meat, soups, roti, Thai coffee, I pay the same as the locals. I don't go to tourist traps but I usually stay in condos that have a pool and a gym, where I pay between $600.00 to $800,00 a month. In Bangkok I use the Sky Line and don't deal with Taxis etc. If I need something from a 7-11, I pay the same as a local. I've also been to the Philippines, China, Korea and Japan and pretty much find good deals to stay in good places and eat local food. Japan is not that expensive if you stay away from Tokyo and Osaka. I have no desire to go to Vietnam nor Cambodia but plan on checking out Laos and Malaysia. The point is, if you travel, use your common sense and don't be desperate and certainly don't stay in a country where you are frustrated.

And I'm going to guess most likely that you spent the whole 10 days in Patong..... Typically when someone makes a comment like this it's because all they did was come here to put on and they didn't see Phuket..... Am I right?

Funny listening to your story but I can appreciate all of it. I have experienced the same “gringo” tax or dual pricing mentality in several other countries (Nicaragua (plus all other Central American countries), Middle East, and Russia. Everyone one of them has a price for locals and a price for gringos (and makes no difference if you’re fluent - your a gringo and they all know it - you can’t hide it - lol). I got so used to that shit, that l when it came to negotiating for a taxi or visiting a local outdoor market, I have my local girlfriend do the talking (I even walk away so they don’t see she’s with a gringo). Many foreign countries have the same situation. There’s good and bad with all countries - including home in the US. Go Yankees dude!

You know it's funny because a lot of people told me that I'm full of s*** when it comes to this.... Lol But just like yourself I've experienced it in every country with the exception of the United States.... Every country over here I pay the white guy tax as I call it.... If there is something that I really want and I know that they're going to hit me hard on it I will do the same thing I'll get a local friend of mine to go and buy it for me... Cheers mate 🍻 Go Yankees

I think so yes.... A lot of foreigners and businesses use WhatsApp but for the most part the locals are using LINE.... So if you're hoping to chat with the local ladies........

Thank you Mark. I made it through the video😂 Nice backdrop. Great topics and good to hear the reality. I have experienced similar on my travels, and now happening in South Africa. When I come to Thailand I want to date a nice petite English speaking ladyboy. There is something mystical about them and I would like to know why they changed genders. It must be a hassle to take plenty tablets for the rest of your life and I think they have a reduced lifespan. Sounds crazy but I want to take one out for dinner. 👩 Cheers from Durban, South Africa. Enjoy your beers. They big cans. 🍻🍻🍻

Doc outstanding video. The part about the higher prices for white farangs is perhaps the most annoying one. Nonetheless, to me in Asia just because you are white people have much higher expectations on you as opposed to if you were non white. They expect better service from you during business relationships, better lifestyle in partner relationships, girls for sure more money etc. Great video. Enjoy Shanghai👌. See you soon

Mark, I hope you can get your bank account straight. The standards of daily living in usa and I'm guessing Canada has greatly deteriorated. Prices on everything has increased 25 to 100 percent. Common sense is not only rare but you will be punished for having any.
