Cool looking truck. As a combat vehicle, or even a logistics vehicle its going to have issues. Setting up solar panels on a battlefield is just asking for an airstrike on your head. Solar panels are easy to see from the sky. So that leaves bringing battery banks up to charge the trucks. Couple of problems with that. Batteries are heavy. Once used to charge a vehicle they need to go back and charge again. You might as well stuck with a internal combustion engine and fuel trucks in that case. Then you have cold weather. Electric vehicles go way down in efficiency the colder it gets.

The front-most A-pillar is also in a spot no other car has, blocking a completely new sector the drivers need to get used to. And the B-pillar forward of the door isn't any smaller than other cars have. front space , wasted space because you can't store anything heavier than a pillow there due to crash safety. Compare it to the frunk in for example F-150 Lightning and Rivian that provides a new and highly useful storage that traditional pickups and vans didn't have. The only advantage the Canoo design provides is the lower front window. Sure that's an improvement over modern American trucks with man-height bonnets that can hide a whole car from view. But compared to the M-B eSprinter TFL showcased just couple days earlier with the sloping bonnets that gives a perfectly fine view of the road it is a useless gimmick. reason why i dont liek electric car is that battery degradation and lack of battery recyling. dendrites that forms from battery degradation is messes with recyalability too. if you look at sandy munroe video caled wjats insize 680 battery, there could be indicator of how much of battery can be recycled by mechnaical seperation vs what chemical process would be needed, woudl it be susntinable process? recycling company called redwood. even if they fix this problem, will they dig through trash to find enviromentally damaged (rust, mud, etc) dead car batteries currently being dumped, and recycle them? in emissions, best hting to do is a ca rof where rear seats face the rear as comcpact 4 seate rreplacing 2+2 seater cars and yaris corolla cars, and rear mid engine small combustion flat 2 cylinder wnith no rotatiing parts to send power to wheels, instead magnets moving back and forth make electricty aand or a little supplemnetary compressed air , to power electric drive and compressed air driver, possibly with no battery or at minimal battery, using supercapacitor etc. single combustion chamber would help preserve heat for optimally low emissions or effeincy, hydrallic switch will push pistons back to position so they can be pushed by combustion.. optimal combustions per second for emissions with electric and mechnaical hybrid turbocharger, sometimes engine will run beyond optimal effiency or emissions levels for unsuually high power demand to protect long term emissiosn and fuel use reduction effetiveness of battery for common lower power use. with limited batterys to use, hybrids are already more effceint effective at reducing emissions, vs using that battery material for fewer cars who are electric cars, becaue most emissions happens in low speed high pushing power sitatuaitons of combustion car, where emissions are most likley to chemicaly harm health of nearby people becaue its usually compact city area with many people nearby. what battery size is best for longevity? see tony hellers climate change videos, maybe somone can make use of suspicious observers videos. see aptera owners club video on saftey, unqiue materials they use, lightweight is safer to peopel outsid ethe car but can be safe for people inside car compared to hevaier caar if using right materials, and even safer due to wat type of crash is more likley to happen.. linearly more lighter weight exponentially causes less road wear damage causing less resurces and emissions and road downtimes. ..... the low weight compared to structrual strength and crash energy absorption, makes its safer per costs ,. the weight lower to ground (if that is how its still done) can make it preserve momentum around turns more, which is more energy effceint than relying on regenerative braking, and battery, brakes, lubrication, etc would last longer. tires longveity may not be affected despite higher speed and fun of preserving momentum with minimum g forces . .... in effeincy per functionality, rear seats facing rear in sompact 4 seater woudl make more sense. solarpanel effeincy is only arouund 20 percent and can become lot better if u want lower emissons(whch only helpful for heath of pepe wh send mhme near heavy traffic roads), then using mited batteyr supply for hybrids is lower emson than using the suppply for fewer cars whch are eletric car. big batteyr means exppnentially less effceint, so the more energy going in and out the battery means worse battery degradation, but more parraleles of battery reduce battery degradation... so more battery is not better, theres a balance to be had. ff

I can see use cases for replacing non tactical vehicles with EV's but tactical vehicles will be fossil fuel powered for a good long time to come. For the non-military NTV's are regular cars, trucks, and SUV'd used behind the lines or on base only for all the things civilians use cars and trucks for. Tactical vehicles are used to fight with. Pairing EV's with the small nuclear reactors the military is developing would be very useful for NTV's deployed overseas.

Having watched some videos of operations in the Russia/Ukraine war, I could see this truck being used by the military for (1) wounded troop evacuation and (2) nighttime special-ops drone strikes. For (2), you basically get a crew of 4 or 5 guys with maybe 4 or 5 drones from about 30 miles behind the front line to the front line at night. You can charge the drones 1 or 2 times in the truck from its power hookup. You go launch some recon operations or nighttime grenade drops on enemy troops at night, pack up, and drive 30 miles back from the front to recharge it so you can repeat your operation the next day. It'll have a low thermal footprint from the sky, which will make it harder to spot at night by recon drones with thermal cameras. If your logistics hub is 30 miles from the front and if the logistics hub has electricity, you can keep running these operations with fewer and smaller diesel deliveries to the front or to your logistics hub. Likewise, you can have trenches right at the front, and you can make deliveries of food and ammo to the guys in the trenches with one of these at night -- less noise, lower thermal footprint. The modular design makes it flexible for various kinds of operations. My main concerns with Canoo would be (1) that they run out of cash before they can get closer to positive earnings and (2) that, despite their innovative designs, they run into reliability issues that take a lot of money and time to resolve. I think problem (1) will be a challenge as interest rates stay high and several other companies introduce electric pickups and vans to the market. I have no idea how much (2) will be an issue, but, as someone who used to fix cars for a living, I appreciate that massive redesigns of existing vehicle concepts typically result in small reliability issues due to design flaws that the engineers didn't catch in the design stage. Having said all that, these Canoo pickup truks represent what pickup trucks SHOULD be for most users. It would be great if pickup trucks operating on roads for civilian usage had reduced wheel bases to take up less space when parked and better visibility at the front to reduce dangerous collisions with pedestrians, animals and cyclists. The Ford F150 Lightning looks like a very capable pickup, but it is massive and massively heavy. All that weight puts a lot of wear and tear on roads. I think most guys who work in construction do not need a 5 ton pickup truck. If you transport bags of concrete or small loads of bricks, sure, you probably need a big and heavy pickup. For other guys who are just moving a stack of 2x4s, a miter saw, a job site table saw, some saw horses, and a few tool bags, you can do most jobs without a pickup that's the size of an F150.

The difference is the M1A2 can refuel and be off in less time that it takes to recharge the Canoo and still move 300 miles with the equivalent of 10 Canoo's on it's back

As said far better than myself- Gonzo262 4 days ago One other thing to remember is that the overwhelming majority of the military's vehicles will never see combat. Think of the US Army as a company with 500,000 employees, many of whom have a "company" car. Huge numbers of vehicles are used just moving people around in the continental US. Sure you need off road, the military does a lot of disaster relief, and you could get called to active duty. However most of the time you are just running errands around the post. The USAF has hundreds of crew cab pickups who's only job is driving the air crews out to the flight line and back. This doesn't have to replace an M1A3 Abrams to get tens of thousands of orders. It just needs to replace a Chevy pickup.

canoo is nice car but it cant compare to ford f150 lightning in terms of utility for work. and extra 30$k is not that much considering the amount you pay will always got to your tax deduction anyway..

The MRAP is required to have a range of 300 miles at 45mph; Canoo could very well match that.

This shows a drastic misunderstanding of how the Military uses vehicles. Long convoys hauling heavy equipment does not work with current EV design or battery technology. There are reasons that current Military vehicles are set up the way they are. Your idea of "large off-road tires" is half the size of HMMWV tires. This does not have nearly enough ground clearance for actual off-highway use. The Carbon-Kevlar reinforcements are not actually armor and the addition of real armor will amplify the problem of short range and lack of cargo capacity. an array of solar panels for recharging will be far too slow for for any kind of rapid troop and equipment movements on a dynamic battlefield. EV's excel at being a daily commuter. The technology is not ready for national defense.

It may be a very useful and practical truck, but it does not look macho enough for a man with a small penis. You know they will want something bigger to compensate. ;)

Yea, all true, and all still problems.. But, this is basically the first or second page of the story of EV's. Many automakers are just now (some haven't even) starting to deliver their first gen EV's. Battery tech will improve and it's most likely only a matter of time before we have batteries 1/4 of the size with 4x the potential energy. Bottom line, the switch is happening, no way around it, and it'll eventually beat gas powered vehicles in every respect.

For me, a single guy who wants a small ev truck for a daily driver I want the smaller cabin/bigger bed of that military style Canoo. I would rather have the Alpha Wolf, but just not sure if that's a real thing. Hopefully the era of the small pickup 2door for evs will give people like me what they want!

DUDE you are so right about the pickup having way more personal vehicle sales potential in the US than the LV; it's actually not even close. The Pickup could absolutely carry the company; also, they kinda did change the entire brand of the company toward the pickup/ SUV off-road capable since Tony took over. I had this same revelation today after kind of not following the day to day of the company closely for almost a year and coming back to it recently to reassess things. I actually wrote Canoo today to basically say the same thing..they have a limited time and resources to set up manufacturing; I think those resources should pivot to making/ selling the pickup, because I think it will be way more successful and relevant. I could talk for a long time about their need to do this, but basically, the changes to the LV and the brand already are like half-way toward the pickup, they kinda just need to go all in on what they've already seriously changed as an entire brand. The LV is really more just like a leftover at this point. In other words, their time and money constraints don't give them the luxury to delay what would potentially be the more popular, better looking, better selling EV - they need to just pivot to the pickup, hit a home run, and the fk with everything else. Cheers! The fact that we've both obviously been following Canoo in-depth for a long time, and came to the same exact conclusion about what's working/ what's not... tells me that Canoo should probably pay attention to our perspective and suggestions. I would also buy this over an F150; assuming a similar price vs. similar range.

Damn I love this post, thank you, and obviously I think you're 100% correct. However they do have obligations to deliver several thousands of commercial vans, so that has to happen, but yes, if they can prioritize the pickup for the consumer market I promise you they'll sell every single one they can make. Right now there's a HUGE opening in the market. Pretty much all EV trucks right now are $80k+ (yea maybe there's like one f150 lightning for sale somewhere that might be less, but good luck.) Considering how similar the LV and Pickup are, surely it can't be all that hard.. Thanks for the thoughts man.. may expand this and dig deeper into a whole video based just on this idea.

perfect so instead of gas logistics what is the plan to recharge here? plug into the enemy electrical grid behind lines? supply trucks with 100,000 lb massive battery storage? 100 mile long extension cords? maybe a hopped up golf cart to run around on base/motor-pool errands but that's about it!

Folks yammering on and on about an EV being used in theater, settle down for Pete’s sake, lol. The feeling out of the possibilities with the military would definitely be a supplement for regular use for non theater applications on a broader scale in the near term. But the feeling out of what’s possible as the technology advances can pay real dividends for the civilian uses of the high durability research and development the military is getting behind. This is all a good thing actually. Some of these comments are friggin hilarious, lol. 🤣🤣🙄🙄🤣🤣

This, OMG this. This is literally just the beginning. The work and testing that's being done now will impact the military in 20 years. Still a long way to go, still plenty of tech to get figured out... this is a start, an exciting start, but still just a start. Thanks for your comment man.
