Yeah, you right 👍 about that! I was in my first 🥇 year of college and this guy from California ⏯️ played The Cars 🥇 first album all of the time! "My Best Friend's Girl" was his favorite song, but listening to the music 🎶 really got me hooked on that particular genre all those years ago. I'm 62 now, but if a song sounds good, no matter what genre or group ⏯️ plays it, I'll listen 👂 to it! I grew up with the British Invasion, the Motown Sound, Jazz, Heavy Metal, TSOP, Reggae, Classical and Country.... and when The Cars came along, well I still listen to them too!

This song has followed me my whole life. It was '81 in my first place of my own. I had heard the song on the radio a few times, but now, well, l had a stereo! I remember putting it on the turntable, cranking it to 10 sitting back and thinking, yup it is isn't it... Had a Hafler rack amp, a decent turntable and home built speakers and sub, yes a sub. Radio shack speaker components. Why you ask? Cheap. Allmost every weekend by sunday morning most of the speakers were blown. No problem trip out to town maybe hundred bucks and a hour later my neighbors are shaking their heads. Also had two pair of boxing gloves. Anyone starting a pissing contest, glove up and outside. Once as the round started a cop pulled up. He just sat in his car untill a winner was decided then with a grin told us to turn it down and left. Good times, to be 16 again, my own place, good job (rigging rat, chokerman for you city loggers) and a fast car. 4:30 came quick monday morning...

For so many, as a band geek, middle school & high school was sometimes rough. Thank God for The Cars. Used to get lost in their melodies & all the problems of the day melted away. Today when I hear these songs, only happy memories surface of those angst-filled teenage years. (Class of '85). In 2019, enjoy The Cars in the same way in this terribly troubled world. Turn off the tv, put on an old Cars vinyl album, & the music carries me away. Really like this video. Thank you littlesparks 1970.

This is the song that separates the men from the boys on the album Candy-O. The "boys", the shallow fans, skip from "It's All I Can Do" to the title track, but the men SETTLE IN for the RIDE from this slow-burn song, thru "Shoo Be Doo", to the blistering "Candy-O"! Of course, that men/boys bullshit doesn't apply to actual gender ... I know a woman who knows her Candy-O backwards and forwards ,,, It simply kicks ass ... One of the finest rock albums EVER made.

One of the main reasons The Cars are one of my favourite bands is because I could listen to all the songs on their albums. A great song ahead of it's time. It has an eerie beat to it that matches the haunting eschatology (in case haven't heard that word it's like bad kharma - "ya lived a double life so 'it's all gonna happen to you'".) True enough to life! The cars were/are so unique they stand alone - except maybe for all the other bands they influenced.

I was never an Ocacek fan when the Cars became my first favorite band in 79. But as time has passed I've come to realize that if it wasn't for him"Ric" there would be no Cars BC he wrote Virtually every song they sung. So here's to you Ric. BigTruckAA Ric Ocacek was always underrated, as most low-key but talented artists the case are. Your correct though that most fans have always looked past Ric, and more on to Ben Orr. But its Ric with the unique voice, (sounds off beat) who has a gem of a voice which has made them a success and no other singer can imitate.

First, great job on this video, I have never seen this clip with the original audio, it's always been the album track dubbed over this live performance! Second, as an avid Cars fan for many, many years, I have to say that the songwriting and musicianship of this band was WAY ahead of its time. The Cars were musical pioneers for so many acts that followed, and are grossly underrated in the musical world. I could go on, but the music here speaks for itself. This is one of my 10 favorite albums in the history of rock and roll. I know some Cars purists prefer the first album best. To my ears, Candy-O leaves the first album - and just about every other album - in the dust. The lyrics; Elliot Easton's guitar playing; the vocals; the musical quality of the songs: Candy-O is exceptional in every way.

This album blows the debut away. For starters, Ben comes into his own as a vocalist of note on the title track, Let's Go, It's All I Can do and You Can't Hold On Too Long. On the debut his vocals were almost indistinguishable from Ric's, except maybe for All Mixed Up. Also Ric gets a chance to stretch out here and pay homage to his influences. This song recalls the Velvets, Shoo Be Doo pays tribute to Suicide, Candy-O to punk rock, A Lot On My Head to garage rock, and Dangerous Type to Roxy Music .

Strange, I found Candy-O on sale for $5 at my local W-M too. And I needed a new copy anyway, because on my older copy, "Since I Held You" had a skip during the intro, and that is Just Not Acceptable. "Double Life" is awesome because it's the start of a whole thing, a three-song segue, if you count "Shoo Be Do" as a whole song. I mean, as much as I like this song itself, I wouldn't want to listen to a remix that didn't segue into "SBD" and then "Candy-O" like it does. Sequence is so important...!
