In this episode we revisit earlier discussions on Final Fantasy prequel games and whether, for example, Square could viably entertain a Final Fantasy VIII-2 that focuses on Laguna Loire, Kiros and Ward; or a Final Fantasy X-0 that focuses on Jecht, Auron and Braska, rather than jumping forward to Final Fantasy sequels which, as Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth shows, can often be met with mixed receptions.
There are clear pros and cons between both prequel and sequel formats, with the former being freer to explore origin stories, existing characters, and arriving at a pre-defined end-point that jumps into a known narrative; while Sequel's allow us to see know protagonists and the next stage of their adventure, after the primary story has taken place. Here we'll break down the pro's and con's and consider which Final Fantasy games might warrant the prequel treatment.
