She doesn’t say WHO was on that ship that landed on July 11, 1733. Only 20 years later (1754) “rum flowed etc etc”. Who’s influence had arrived?

While the idea of releasing people from debtors prison was a noble idea, the fact is that it did not happen. The people on the Anne were mostly poor but not fresh out of prison. Many came on their own accord without the help of the trustees, many came from the Carolina's as well. A quick research of the passenger list of the Anne would have prevented the further misconception of who the first settlers were.

Fort Agyre was close as well. Oglethorpe thought he could raise mulberry trees to make silk in addition to using the settlers as a human shield. I suspect Oglethorpe wrote the history books and this talltail has just been repeated over and over. The truth is Savanah was a place of disease and failure, not a utopia. You might want to read the words of someone besides Oglethorpe to get a better idea. Btw, those people that questioned Oglethorpe were labeled “malcontents “ and were punished by not getting the land promised to them.
