So I worked at Macca's until I was 19. My overnight manager Cedric was a legitimately cool manager. He always put in his managers code for us when we got our meals... so free food. And since I was the only other smoker on the overnight crew (which is apparently unheard of... usually there's only one guy who ISN'T a smoker) he would wave me over as he walked out back for a smoke. That's the signal for "Drop what you're doing, we're heading out back for 15". And if we were ever slammed in the kitchen, he wouldn't just sit in the office. He'd come out, out some gloves on, then order me to work product and he'll work the line (I was faster at product than him and he was faster at line than me so it was perfect). Legit the best manager I ever had.

I swear I was like this to my employees and they loved working with me. Told them we cool outside of work but when you come to work I have to be by the book. Out of 25 employees, I hired only 2 took advantage of my laid-back attitude. If you do your job I won't bother you if you're just hanging out. No need to look for something to make them work if everything relevant is done. Managers will say well the floor is dirty sweep it up when it's cleaned 2 hours ago to make them feel like they have power. Just be a chill manager and lay down the rules and everything will be fine.

I appreciate people like you. I've had chilled supervisors where as long as you do your work its all okay. But I currently have to deal with a crazy supervisor. Its an office job, not in a warehouse. And the position I'm in now, has been empty for a number of years. And basically a week after being hired, my boss left for another position. With only being trained for like 1 hour. The boss position has been open for a little over a year now. My supervisor has helped me get set up but hasn't been able to provide me with much of any additional training because she was hired several months before me, but Covid happened and she wasn't able to be trained much either. However, with the big mess on hand, most of the structure has been placed now; I have completed basically everything that I can do physically possible. I'm even helping another unit I used to work in, for additional work. But a lot of the information is missing or work was never processed in another unit, one that I am heavily reliant on for work. But the issue is, my supervisor is crazy. Wants to know every little detail going on in both units- even though its not her job in the other unit. My supervisor wants me to work to the bone, even though there really isn't much else to do at the moment. If we had all the information/work- I'd be busy for a couple years possibly. Absolutely follows everything to a T. No flexibility. If she asks me something, and I reply, she will get angry with me when I need to explain something. Calls me rude, disrespectful, and combative, even though I don't talk behind her back, I don't raise my voice at her, or call her any offensive language. I complete my work with no issue. And never complain about receiving work. Reported her a couple times now for her falsely accusing me. Had a couple discussions with upper management. I recently requested a meeting because she obviously just calls me combative in a way to stop me from talking in general. Upper management has no idea either why she is saying these things. Upper management knows me as a hard worker in the other unit for covering basically 3 positions and had absolutely no issues in the past with anyone except for her. Probably won't have the meeting with her and upper management until after the holidays. Hell, recently I've been teaching myself how to run this one program, that my supervisor doesn't know how to use but wants to. More power to me.
@WoozyYami

Yeah, fr. As a manager I've always hated that "everyone needs to be doing something" rule because I would have a million things to do myself and now I have to take time out of my actual work to brainstorm some stupid thing for workers to do. As long as the job is done, that's what matters.

I always appreciate the managers who see two people talking and see one is working but don't bother the other to work as well. Like I'm bagging shit for orders later and my co-worker from another department is talking to me, his job ain't to bag so the manager doesn't bother him.

Yep, I can tell who is doing the work just by looking at their work that as delegated to them and how long it took them to get it done. If they're doing their job, I leave them the fawk alone. If they had questions about something needs to be clarify again or unsure, I always encourage them to ask. I hate doing shiet 2x. I don't disrespect employee just because they work under me nor waste my time hiring nor trying to work with people who ain't trying to work, but always crying about having to do this and that. GO home and pick up your last paycheck buddy, you don't need to be here if you ain't happy. The rest of those who are trying to work don't need that negative nancy vibe.

@@yanansbald it's really rare for that to be the case tho. My stepdad has that right now one hour paid break. But literally every other job he had, my mom had, I had been if it's 8 hours it's 30 minutes unpaid. Sometimes it's another 15 minute break paid as well with it.

@@yanansbald specifically for Walmart you technically are there for 9 hours. 1 hour lunch (unpaid) and 2 x 15 minute (paid) breaks. This may vary based on state laws but this is the general run of it.
