Took me back many years listening to a beautiful song. I remember going to hear the Corries singing in a pub down the High St in Edinburgh. It was always packed ,the nights they were singing.

I love this verion of this song. Whether in the Scots Gaelic or English it is beautiful. At 25 seconds the black and white portrait of the late Paddie Bell is stunning.

Bought the LP in 1967 when I lived in Shotts, Lanarkshire, Scotland. This was/still is one of my favourite tracks of all time. So atmospheric and Paddi Bell's voice conveys the perfect" yearning " required by the lyrics. Never tire of listening to this. Wonderful days gone by but the memories never fade. Scotland!

This is so beautiful, I've listened to it over and over since I first heard it earlier this week... I have so many favorite Corries songs, and I didn't think I could like one more than Skye Boat song, but I think this one is my favorite now :)

Fhir a' Bhàta (Oh, my Boatman) How oft I'll wander the highest hilltop And scan the ocean, thy boat to see. Will't come tonight, love? Will't come tomorrow Or ever come, love, to comfort me? Fhir a' bhàta, 'sno horo eile, Fhir a' bhàta, 'sno horo eile; Fhir a' bhàta, 'sno horo eile, So fare thee well, love, where'er thou be. (They call thee false one, they call thee fickle And strive to change me, but Oh! in vain; No; thou'rt my dream yet throughout the long night And at the dawning I call thy name.) Fhir a' bhàta, 'sno horo eile, Fhir a' bhàta, 'sno horo eile; Fhir a' bhàta, 'sno horo eile, So fare thee well, love, where'er thou be. There's not a hamlet - too well I know it! Where you won't wander and bide a while; But all its old folks you'll win with talking And charm its maidens with song and smile. Fhir a' bhàta, 'sno horo eile, Fhir a' bhàta, 'sno horo eile; Fhir a' bhàta, 'sno horo eile, So fare thee well, love, where'er thou be. (Dost thou remember the promise made me? The silken gown and the ring of gold? I own the locket with thine hair and portrait But Oh! thy heart, love, I'll never own.) Fhir a' bhàta, 'sno horo eile, Fhir a' bhàta, 'sno horo eile; Fhir a' bhàta, 'sno horo eile, So fare thee well, love, where'er thou be.
