They have an engineer as CEO, so even if I don't like Intel that much, I don't have bias when it comes to CPUs. Well not brand wise. What matters (to me) is performance per watt and related PSUs need and cooling systems. People only talk about the necessity to change MB and CPU but there's much more than than depending on peak TDP. Look at Apple. Jobs was an engineer (hacker in the truest sense) and devices were innovative, expensive but innovative. Tim now cook consumers with cheap dough recycling same old recipes, giving less for higher prices. That's what marketing is about : making you purchase trash while thinking you acquiring a luxury good. That's what Apple is number one in the world for. Intel is indecisive. Geislinger clearly isn't a directive leader. He might have been a team leader. But not a good manager. A team leader and a manager have more or less the same role in EU. Except a team leader is underpaid for more expertise. In US, a manager is a good slave owner and dictator. How to make people work more for less than free when team leaders shoulder the responsibilities of making the team endure. Pat just haven't found his path. And maybe he never will. If he could let his engineer side take over first then thinking about profitability, Intel may get back on trails.

Intel is trying to create a situation that would allow them to deny warranty claims due to misuse. Think of this way: mobo manufacturers are the car dealership, Intel is the car manufacturer, and we as consumers are responsible for anything we do with that vehicle once it leaves the lot. My 1976 Buick Regal would go 115 mph at factory settings, but I don't recommend.

I think Intel is trying to partially cover for the mobo manufacturers, who probably were too aggressive with auto overclocks. I don’t understand Intel. They are being two faced about this. They like to try an deny warranty claims and dodge responsibility when it comes to instability and state things like xmp is overclocking. Then they recommend users and mb manufacturers to overclock? Which one is it? You can’t give people a straight answer because you want the OC benchmarks, but don’t want the OC stability and warranty responsibilities. It’s insulting to the consumer and your partners.

My take on the "Intel Default Settings" is that the key word in their description is "thermal", and that the motherboard manufactuers should implement new Intel recommended power delivery profiles that still technically allow the power to go high for short bursts (between 253W and 550W depending on your motherboard/setting), but are still severely hamstrung by having aggressive thermal (and maybe current) limits to stop the thermal wear that is destroying the CPUs. This lets them still claim to the end users that don't look at the details that they didn't waste $$$ on expensive overclocking motherboards --- while still solving the issue and claiming that the motherboard manfactuers are to blame.

From a business perspective legal wise you NEVER admit fault as lawyers will tell you. So this is the reason why companies never apologize, because if they do so, it puts them into more harms way in the legal sense. This makes it incredibly hard for companies to do the "right" thing morally as the legal side of things largely prevents them from doing so. So I don't expect to see an "oops we're sorry" in the slightest here because companies are not willing to risk opening themselves up to law suits because it becomes easier to sue them if they have admitted to wrong doing since you no longer have to prove it as you can simply use their words. Welcome to the world of business where things are cut throat and rarely easy to decipher.

@cracklingice

I'm fairly certain that it was not the 253W profile that was causing the instability but mobo manufacturers that ignored it and run the CPUs beyond the intended 253W max TDP. I call that overclocking given todays current climate of CPUs not really having any headroom anymore. It's the same thing as PBO on the AMD side. If a CPU is not stable with intel extreme profile then it is defective and needs to be replaced under warranty since some person at intel said that unlimited power was 'in spec' even though it clearly exceeds the intended spec of the CPU and should be considered as overclocking.

Intel i960 was intels second attempt to replace x86 with something they had full control over (tbm insisted that Intel had a second supplier for the original ibm pc, which was amd, Intel tried to later freeze amd out by not sharing the 386 design onwards, but amd made their own. Later this was resolved when Intel had another failure and needed 64bit on x86, which amd had developed). Intel i432 and iA64 were the others. I432 ended up like i960 in printers and other devices, iA64? That was itanium and it is typically known as itannic by many..

In Regards to the Intel debacle.. here's my 2 cents: Intel quit throwing out confusing statements, they are only hindering your product Intel motherboard manufacturers, Stay on a safer "Intel Default settings" profile. Move all the other confusing and misconstrued things to an "overclocking" profile as you've done in the past. That's why there's a "K" in the model number. it signifies that the processor is unlocked and can be ran at non-default settings, i.e. overclocked. With people that overclock their PC's they understand that "Running my 6.0 Ghz processor at 6.1Ghz, and I get instability, I need to look at other things so see if I can eke out any more performance"

The bios devs can not do whatever they want unless intel says they can. Intel marketing said to the bios devs to do what they can to make the high end look better than amd even though our intel high end is possibly going to be unstable and mite fail because we are losing in the desktop market.

ARM is not a limitation. Really, any ISA is rarely a limiting factor. The ISA can give marginal benefits here and there, but generally speaking the ISA is not what makes or breaks a chip. Jim Keller talked about this when they interviewed him on the WAN show. He's a chip designer who had a hand in Apple's A4 and AMD's original Ryzen, among many other achievements. But long story short, the ISA is essentially just a frontend to the CPU, and it's everything happening behind that frontend that really determines the capabilities of the chip. The ISA has *some* influence, it's just not much.

The CPU Boost is overclocked too aggressively by Intel. Things you need to do is lower the watt limit to base default and temp limit around 60C, you can undervolt on top of that with 200-300mhz underclock. 10 nm process node is not made for 1.5v. Default voltage is 0.800v. i would recommend to stay below 1.250v for longevity and stability. Boost voltage is around 1.500v depends on bin. 125W is default, recommended. 253W is boost, you don't want to run this wattage for too long. I know this can be hard for normies but that is Intel's fault for pushing the chips to much.

I get it, putting the current experience of whatever the title offers out there is informative to consumers and enlightening to devs, but there aren't enough big asterisks at the beginning of these reviews disclosing that the game is not complete at a core state (pre-dlc, if any). I relate this a bit to when devs put out a gameplay or first look video but state right from the get-go that it's a game still in development; reviewers could do better.

You can get a z790 anywhere from $100 to $1,000 these days but I wouldn't be surprised if they all run the same BIOS power delivery settings. If the minimum specs for Z chipsets is less than the minimum specs for i9 K SKUs you could easily get this not fully supported debacle. It's not about the image - it's about lawsuits. You know what? At this point I can almost guarantee that Intel signed contracts with board manufacturers which allows those manufacturers to push the limits for marketing purposes. Now Intel wants to protect the customers and discloses recommended settings, but it's not allowed to say that they are actually correct settings for stability - because those contracts with board manufacturers are prohibiting that. That's why even though Intel wants to resolve the issue and disclosed correct settings for stable CPUs, they can't just go against board manufacturers directly - so they say "if your board supports it,". At the same time, they are trying to talk the manufacturers into being more reasonable with their settings.

Really want Intel to scrap e-cores, or move them exclusively to laptop platforms. I haven’t bought an Intel CPU since the 11th Gen. I’m concerned that they just might double down and go SoC to prove a point.

I've had my 14600k limited to 125w since I got it. All the cores don't need to ever run full speed. Intel probably needs to address how they use their cores because they get criticized for using a lot of power, and there's no real world benefit for cores 10-14 boosting as high as they do to consume that extra power. Whatever gets dumped to those cores likely doesn't need to be processed at max clock as fast as possible. Also, AMD's rumor mill said 40% gains on Zen 5 and now reports are throwing 10% IPC gain around. I'd say Intel is pretty safe once Arrow Lake launches properly and anybobdy with a 7800x3d likely won't be jumping at Zen5. I prefer my 14600k to my 7800x3d in general use though, with faster boot times and multicore. Only drawback is the power consumption, with my x3d running off a much smaller CPU cooler. So, AMD might have to worry about 15th Gen matching the x3d + extra multitasking performance vs Intel worrying about a slightly better Zen4 - Esp if AMD doesn't fix their idle power consumption problems that Zen4 had.

This is how I interpret Intels statement as a consumer: we sold you a bad product, go buy AMD to fix the issue.

I am also sick of AI. Companies are just trying to throw it in anywhere to say they have it whether it’s useful or not. I can’t wait for AI to crash.

my new hob says it has an AI zone, in reality theres zero programming or processing involved, its just got multiple induction coils so you can put a pan anywhere on it. They really do stick the letters AI on things for zero reason, even when its false advertising.

I think I figured it out guys. Intel is saying just enable Resizable BAR. That will fix it!

The GPU situation is what I'm concerned about... They are deliberately holding back the new solid state technology to keep selling the brick technology... ☹️

I think intel is roundabout saying that if the mother board manufacturer licenses the technology for their extreme motherboards then they can provide the settings in a stable way, but they have been all providing the over clocking settings
