Hey brother, they loved black music. Lux would hit all the thrift stores and record shops in the 80's and scoop up all the great 45's from a lot of black artists. You're in good company.

Saw The Cramps twice Live on Their Date With Elvis Tour. Manchester Apollo/Victoria Hall Hanley 1986....'Now everybody's heard....about the bird'. Absolutely Brilliant. Remember Lux climbing up into The Gantry at the Viccy Hall via all the wire cables..Best Live Band ive ever seen. And I've seen a lot !!!

@@gowdsake7103 Raw, wild, simple and totally rock'n'roll in its energy doesn't mean terrible nor lackluster. There's tons of charisma and character (just checked some of their old live videos) and on the same token, you could say the same about The Ramones, for example. But I understand you, I used to not get it either, now changed my view on them. (Then it's of course a matter of tastes...)

Very cool! Ivy was a trailblazer for all of us Rockin’ women who came up after. Total Icon. Lux and Ivy were the King and Queen. Did they ever get nominated for the RnR HOF? If not, they should be. RIP Lux, and I hope Ivy is living in peace and love. ❤️

Poison Ivy is not an underrated female guitar player. She may be considered an underrated guitar player, however, those who tend to sexualize would often place her in their top 10 females.

This is probably the best live version I’ve seen of ‘Mad Daddy’ and excellent visual and audio quality! I recently heard an interview with Lux and Ivy. ‘Mad Daddy’ was actually inspired by a radio DJ in Cleveland named Pete Myers who went by Pete ‘Mad Daddy’ Myers. Lux loved the radio show he put on back in the 50’s (late 50’s I believe). Thank you so much for sharing this. RIP Lux and much love to Ivy, the Queen of rock n’ roll! 🌹

Montreal Spectrum in 1988, Screaming Blue Messiahs opened. Unbelievable show with Lux down to just tiny leopard skin undies and pumps, swallowing the mic and soaked in red wine. One of the best rock spectacles of my many years seeing live music. May he rock on wherever he is now...

I saw The Cramps a number of times over the years but the best shows were at The Hootenanny In Irvine Ca. in 1995, 1998 (both days), and 2004 (10 year Reunion Show). Saw them in the 80's at the Hollywood Palace, The Palladium, Universal Amphitheater and in the 90's a couple times at the Galaxy Theater in Santa Ana. All great shows. Bring back The Hootenanny - it's been nine years since the last one in 2013! Sadly missed!

Lux and Ivy are just blistering. If anyone has not seen the concert they did for a mental hospital, I highly recommend it. Some of the best footage of this amazing idea by this incredible band.

Saw them on their last night at Hammersmith Palais in '84 - the best gig I have been to. Lux was wonderful! I hope he's truly happy wherever he is. God bless Ivy also!

As someone who saw them waaay back, several times, with Bryan Gregory, I can say that this still, rather astoundingly, kicks ass. And it's just the opener - they haven't entirely settled into their groove/ferocity yet - my fave from this show is the Caveman/Let's Get F'd Up footage from TheManus02 - I'm addicted to it

I never saw them play live but had the chance to talk to them when they stayed in the hotel i work in Oporto Portugal.They even autographed my "Psychedelic Jungle" CD.They were very nice to me!Dispite the age they were still very cool!!!

I wish Poison Ivy hadn't dropped off the musical map, (so to speak). But 37 years with her husband Lux IS a hard act to follow. If you watch any of the interviews you could tell she loved him. He died so abruptly I m sure it was and is hard to get over. God bless the the Queen of Psychobilly.... Come back Queenie.

Lux was from Akron Ohio. We used to listen to Mad Daddy on Cleveland Radio aroung 58-59, Then Mad Daddy was on TV with a monster movie show Friday nights. But he pumped his stats so much A big New York Market picked him up and he made a lot more money. Ernie Anderson took over the Friday night show as Ghoulardi . Who in a way still rules north east Ohio. Ernie was later the voice of ABC, That deep voice telling you the LUUUV Boat was coming on next.

Yep, AM radio personality Pete Myers joined New York’s 1010 WINS around that time, to do an adult MOR show. About 1961, WINS flipped to rock ‘n’ roll, and Myers reverted to his “Mad Daddy” personna, and was fantastic. He was in competition with Murray the K, Cousin Bruce Morrow, Scott Muni and B. Mitchell Reed, among other NYC radio giants.

That gave me flashbacks of something I'd totally forgot about. When I was very young I Was walking barefoot on a beach on the East coast of England, (and you guessed it) accidently walked on a broken bottle. Still have the scar to show for it.

I remember one time when someone mentioned the Cramps and a friend expounded at length how great the band was. He was stunned to learn I liked them too; my exact words (and I stand by them) were "You haven't lived until you've heard the Cramps."

I've seen thousands of bands. I'm lucky enough to have seen them 3 times... I think they were incapable of putting on anything but an astoundingly authentic staggeringly artistic... and just flat out cool show. Not only that but Lux and Ivy were/are astute musical historians.

Same saw them 3x when I was in high school in 82, 83 & 86. I used to see Lux & Ivy on Melrose always the coolest of couples. Dressed to the nines. Ivy was so badass.
