It's actually one of the few things Chris Morris has apologised for... Ian Curtis's widow wrote in to say that their teenage daughter, a fan of the show, had persuaded her mum to watch an episode with her, it turned out to be this episode, and Curtis's daughter was very upset... Morris was rather horrified at having caused this and wrote a genuinely remorseful letter of apology over it.

@@reecerobson2787 it’s not, it’s just Joy division are a constant source of bewilderment for me as I believe the only reason they were ever famous is because Ian died. Sad as it was, I just cannot understand anything at all likeable about the music. Nobody could even play their instruments, it was worse than a bunch of 14 year olds in a garage It’s purely angsty nonsense, and it’s an emo image which people are enraptured with, not any artistic work of note. So a bit like pop music for nihilists.

Well, at the time (early 90s), that's the only way rap/grunge could have been parodied. And it's still a 100% accurate parody of early 90s rap/grunge. I mean, it all depends how you define dated. The parody is no more dated than the subject matter itself.

This is brilliant comedy. Only neg I'd give it, is that it reinforces the association between Rap and Gangsta, which is mostly a reference to a single recording, Ice-T's "Cop Killer". An because of this, and the fact that many Americans are only exposed to black music through Rap, it makes for a very quick and easy relationship between black people, hatred and violence: An unfortunate combination. Instead of climbing on high horses and protesting, people should learn to understand that being offended is a part of life, and you have NO right whatsoever to not be offended. That is real freedom.
