I remember reading about this vile waste of life. It's very disturbing how Japan is basically given a free pass for their actions in the WW era. We hear all about Mengele and the Holocaust, but we're rarely, if never, told about people like Shiro Ishii or events like the Rape of Nanjing.

Less peers on the international stage willing to force recognition of their actions at the time, unlike in Germany. Racism likely had a role to play, for the eastern copycats this kind of monstrous behavior is a sad reality, but for pure blooded Europeans to do the same is deplorable and disgusting. The fact that it wasn't split up and rather fell fully under the US who wanted another ally against Russia probably didn't help.

To this day there is a statue in Nanking of the heroic nazi diplomat that rescued thousands of civilians from being horribly tortured, raped, and murdered by the ravening Japanese army. Let that sink in. These vile degenerate monsters were so despicable, a literal nazi felt so disgusted and horrified he stepped in to use his authority as a cudgel to save people. I would actually be dying and be completely unable to do something about it. Christ that sounds awful. Excellent video. For the record, these kinds of things are slowly starting to show up in Japanese textbooks compared to, say the 80s. There seems to be several nationalistic politicians that are trying to reverse this effect, but given how the world is reacting to how our government is trying to take statues representing these events down in the mainland countries, I don't think there will be movements large enough to actually do so for the most part. I still don't think there's enough coverage in the general public in the current state, because I don't really know too much about incidents outside of 731 and Nanking. But I am more on the optimistic side regarding this topic, because I'm sure more information and pressure will come in from external countries. If you find us not being aware of these things in public, it's probably because we didn't really much pay attention in class....like me (I got 30% max in Japanese history. I'm not the smartest man. stfu). I only discovered that Unit 731 was indeed in my textbook 7 years after I graduated high school and was looking through my stuff when I was moving. And then I remembered an instructor telling us about how people responsible for this told their collegues to treat the prisoners and human test subjects as logs, hence the coverup as a lumber factory.

Baptism doesn't absolve you from responsibility for the way you lived your life in front of God. It's not some kind of 'Get out of Jail' (Hell) Card. The promise of eschatological peace which is in the core of Christian notion of salvation presupposes fulfilling the demand of justice for the evil committed in life. But the notion of eschatological justice is restorative, not retributive. Simply put, Shiro Ishii didn't save himself by being baptised. Although he will not be punished for his atrocities in the manner he should have been while he was alive (that is in the manner of retributive justice). Instead, to achieve peace, to restore to a just state one more what he has destroyed, he will have to give a just recompense to ALL his victims, the only recompense that matters, the recompense Christ himself gave on the cross for men to be able to do the same - to pass through and experience all the suffering his victims endured in full measure. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth. And more (restorative justice is not only reciprocal, but exponential). He is responsible for their pain, so he should take part in that pain, for none stands apart from others. That's why Christians attempt to live a just life, to live beyond the minimum moral requirement of not doing harm to others. The hope is to develop empathy and intolerance to injustice without compromise or seeking gain by doing it. Not many succeed. That's why Christian talk so much about the grace of God which is supposed to strengthen man to endure in this and accomplish what he cannot alone. Especially, at the moment of the Last Judgment, that is when everyone will be asked to restore justice, to right all the evil and suffering they did or made a compromise with in their lives. This is why I doubt Shiro Ishii will be able to pass the Last Judgement, for he has spent his life doing evil and then evading justice. He has not prepared to give recompense and restore justice. He will buckle, shy away and run from the responsibility for the evil he has done. And when you run away from the justice you owe, you run away from God, into the darkness and the void. Forever alone with your demons. For what is hell but a full cognesence of what you are - monster and a coward - and never be able to find peace, to move pass it or find a way to live with it. Of course, all of this has meaning only if you are a Christian, but I wanted to write it down here to tell all who are not that Christian faith is not some way for monsters to escape nor their conscience nor responsibility for the evil they did to others. The ones who take their faith seriously (not just as a form of cultural identity or as a political ideology) understand the weight of responsibility they have accepted by baptism and their duty towards justice from which they have no excuse before God or other men.

I'm not about to defend your faith karma, but this video has given me some thoughts. "...For instance, it may happen that parents are unaware of their [projected psychological] contents and that their children have to live them. I remember a case, a man, who had no dreams at all. I told him that this was abnormal, his condition was such that he must have dreams, otherwise somebody in his surroundings must have them. At first I thought it was his wife, but she had no undue amount and it cast no light on his problems. But his oldest son, who was eight years old, had most amazing dreams that didn't belong to his age at all. So I told him to ask his son for his dreams and bring them to me, and I analyzed them as if they where his own. And they were his own dreams, and finally by that procedure they got into him and the son was exonerated." -- C.G. Jung Jung would mention in another work that the dreams in this instant were erotic and dealt with religious matters. It is a difficult way of thinking about things for us to assimilate, but if this insight of Jung into psychological contents has validity, then in such a case as presented here (which may or may not be in line with the facts in spite of the author's best efforts) it is not inconceivable that if Ishii evaded guilt people in his surroundings would have to bear it instead. Whereas if he had been brought to justice, that would've been the end of it. Were that all true, Ishii would be the reason you _shouldn't_ regard Japan's war crimes with contempt, but rather pity. Because the unconscious doesn't operate with the same restraint and discrimination as a court of law.
