From the Wiki for this film: "In the original release in the United Kingdom, an extended ending is presented, which was cut for the US release over concerns that it was too depressing. After hallucinating the image of Juno, Sarah awakens in the cave, her entire escape having been revealed to be part of the same hallucination. She sits up to see Jessica sitting across from her, holding a birthday cake. As Sarah smiles the shot widens to reveal that the cake's birthday-candlelight is actually the light of her torch. The camera slowly backs out, revealing the darkness surrounding Sarah as the crawlers are heard closing in."

Fun Facts: In the special features for the movie they described the creatures as the cavemen who never left the caves. Also the director purposely hid what the creatures looked like from the cast, so in the scene when they all encounter one for the first time as it jump scares them, that is their genuine fearful reaction IN REAL LIFE. One of the many reasons this movie is tied with Alien for my all time favorite horror movie. Also I LOVE that Roxy is now a full blown Reel Reject. She’s absolutely perfect, both for the channel, and in real life. Love you Roxstar!❤❤

The whole subtext of friendship and betrayal is key. Juno was having an affair with Sarah's husband. Grief and loyalty play a role especially when Juno left the other girl to die. Sarah could not forgive twice.

I think it’s safe to say that Sarah’s husband and Juno were sleeping together. At the beginning when he helps Juno out of the water the way they look at each other and how he lingers pushing her hair back from her face is some pretty intense body language that signals they are more than just friends. Plus the gift he gave Juno with his motto engraved on it, which Sarah thought was something special between her and her husband, was a big reveal. You don’t give secret gifts to your spouse’s friends. That’s my interpretation anyway. 🤷♀️😊 Thanks for another entertaining reaction, Greg and Roxy!

Honestly, it was NOT Juno's fault. If that was a creature, and she hesitated with the swing, her neck would get torn out in that millisecond of hesitation. Beth walking up to her from behind in total silence was insane.

This is a great movie , so so many jump scares that are totally earned , from the opening jaw dropping death of Sarah's Husband and Daughter to the scene when they pan around in the bone pit and the Crawler is behind one of the Girls was so great , I saw this on a date who wanted to see a scary movie so very good choice there . I think using actresses who are not major big names really works in the films favour . The Cinematography and sound design are fantastic and so effective , having a movie about descending into caves is scary enough with a amazing claustrophobic feel and atmosphere is great throw in the Crawlers and it makes it so much scarier . This is the second movie from Neil Marshall whose first movie Dog Soldiers from 2002 is truly truly great too in fact I prefer Dog Soldiers over this as Descent is a pure Horror movie and Dog Soldiers is a Horror Comedy with really likable characters I would highly recommend Dog Soldiers . Neil Marshall also directed some of the more action packed Game of Thrones episodes like Blackwater , I have not seen Descent part 2 Neil Marshall is apparently Executive Director but with a different Director . There is a cut of Descent which has a different ending I think it may be the US release but I have only ever seen the UK release . Glad to see you mentioned The Ritual another great Horror with really likeable characters and has elements of other Horrors like Blair Witch and Evil Dead but not enough of other movies to feel they are ripping them off .

When i first saw this years after it came out i wasnt sure if it was gonna be any good...i dont remember if it even hit the theater...dont think it did. I loved it. Loved the fact of how uncomfortable and claustrophobic it made me feel. Loved the fact all the girls were from different countries too.

While this movie is incredibly effective, I felt the whole "horror movie justice" angle surrounding Juno to be really forced. Yeah, so, she slept with Sarah's husband, big deal. Maybe the marriage wasn't so great, and maybe the husband should also share some blame. And yes, she killed the other friend, but that was clearly a mistake in the heat of the moment. Given how viewers universally respond to Sarah killing Juno (they generally approve), the movie seems to be unironically endorsing that these are acts worthy of a death sentence. (It reminds me of the horror movie version of morality where teens who are having sex deserve to die.) The only truly unforgivable thing that Juno did was to bring them into the cave system in the first place, but I never hear people bring that up. It's always, "She deserved to die, because she was having sex with Sarah's man!."

I actually agree. Juno was my favorite character honestly & I was so happy to see survived in the second film. And Beth should've never rolled up on Juno without saying anything...have common sense. Beth's death was her fault

I so much agree with this, Beth's death was completely an accident. From the way Beth approached she would have seen Juno had just rage killed a creature and she just sneaks up without saying anything, that's on Beth not Juno. Sarah crippling Juno and leaving her to be eaten to death, especially after discovering evidence Juno killed Beth, really smacks of Sarah always wanted to do so and just wanted an excuse. Moments before Juno fought with her to help them both escape, it's such forced condemnation and really paints Sarah as a shitty person. Cheating is bad, absolutely, but people shouldn't be killed for it and it doesn't make Juno a horrible person.

@@toreyzyreI agree that Juno wasn't in the wrong accidentally killing Beth. The lying about how Beth died was problematic but they're also in shock and under stress. However, it completely fits the story for Sarah to kill Juno. As they half-joked in the reaction, the story is literally about their descent into madness, particularly Sarah. That's why the original ends with her hallucinating about her daughter. She isn't in her right mind when she decides to cripple Juno and leave her to die.

@@ImAlsoMerobiba - I can understand how on paper, that would seem to be what Sarah's decision to kill Juno was all about - Sarah losing her humanity. (You're right, "The Descent" title is a good tip-off that this was the intent.) However, the movie harps on the infidelity so much, I feel like the writer himself thought this was a really juicy, incriminating, smoking gun. Also, I've rarely seen anyone react to Sarah condemning Juno to a horrible fate with sadness. It's usually met with approval, like Juno deserved it. So if the movie was trying to paint it as Sarah's sad descent into madness - rather than it being kick-ass retribution - then the movie didn't quite pull off its goal.

Hard disagree. It’s implied that Sarah and Juno are best friends with a lot of history. Anyone who sleeps with their best friend’s husband (presumably multiple times) and abandons said best friend shortly after they just lost their family is not a good person. Period. Beth’s death was a total accident but Juno lied about what really happened when Sarah confronted her. And Rebecca was right: the cave expedition was just an ego trip. Sending all your friends into a dangerous uncharted cave system without their knowledge and filing a false flight plan (which would prevent anyone from finding and rescuing them should anything bad happen) was, as you said, unforgivable. The fact that Juno did all this under the guise of wanting the glory of being the first ones to discover the cave and naming it after Sarah was the icing on the cake. It’s obvious she only did all this to try and absolve herself of the guilt of what she’s done. Don’t get me wrong, Juno is an interesting and well-written character, but she destroys everything she touches because of her selfishness. She absolutely deserved to be left for dead by Sarah in the end. Given everything Sarah went through, anyone in her position would’ve done the same

Princess Mononoke is probably my favorite title, cause it's just really fun to say. 😂 Everyone please suggest horror movies with romances for Roxy to check out. The only one I can really think of at the moment that's terrible but also fun is the house on haunted hill remake. Love that movie.

I remember studying this film in Film Studies for A-Levels, we studied the symbolism within the film and how certain scenes represent the fear of pregnancy, giving birth, etc. if you consider the monsters as s*erm and the women as eggs, it still messes me up thinking about 😅

This film is all my fears crammed into less than 2hrs. Seen it many times. To this day, I have to watch something Disney after it so I can actually sleep. It's the moment at the end when the camera pans out and you realise that the candles weren't candles and the shadows start to move. Absolutely chilling.
