Strive:ON was on top of my list when I was deciding what e-mtb to buy, but when I learned about the battery issue and saw forum filled with people trying to fix it and Canyon's lack of acknowledging the problem, I completely disregarded it. Kinda shame, because it looks really nice

I cant work out why Canyon, gas gas, YT and a few others have an in-between size for those 175cm tall. Its the average height in the UK. Rather than the sales pitch of saying you have the choice between stability and agility, the reality is neither size will suit you or give you an optimal mountain bike experience.

Thanks for this. I'm 178 and looking at the numbers I was constantly feeling towards the S despite everyone's advice and Canyon also recommending a M. Other manufacturers would also recommend smaller sizes than Canyon. Unsure on why Canyon has these recommendations, wonder if they just want to make everyone feel good with the extra stability?
@TheLoamWolf

Yeah you’re welcome! It’s interesting to see where brands direct people and the pressures from “those who know” aka forum commenters. We’re firm believers that there isn’t a one size formula for everyone. Someone at 178 could love a medium while another could hate it and never feel at home… go with the numbers that you’ll be happiest with for your riding style and terrain.
@eugenux

on size S, you'll hit your knees on the handlebars(this a pedal bike and you pedal it by sitting on the saddle) and the 450mm reach is for ppl less than 170 cm in height. Also, in this case Loam Wolf is inconsistent; the size M Pivot Shuttle LT was too little for him(even though is was bigger than this Strive's size M) and he went for a Large but here, he decided against the Large and promote sizing down 2x; ffs, he is, shoes on, over 190 cm and he says the best fit for him was a bike with a top tube of 610mm and 470mm reach. I call this a big big BS. when is he lying?, now, with the strive or back then with the shuttle LT?

Rocky would take the cake in a power-focused sprint. It would be a close call between the three on the way down the hill, but the slightly more lively nature of the Wild may just edge it for flat-out descending speed.

It's definitely tricky. Always worth hopping onto other bikes and comparing geometry numbers to ensure you get the fit that is right for you, if you can. Could you tell us your inseam length, please? I'm 6,5 (197 cm) and tried the XL on the Canyon parking lot. Seating position felt good, but I had a lot of bike in front of me. I did not try the L because Canyon's specs say that the maximum seat height is 85 cm, which is a tad too low for my 97cm inseam length. The M maximum height is around 80cm according to Canyon, so I'm wondering how you could establish the right saddle height with 189cm and long legs.

How do you find the handling vs the 2023 Orbea Wild? Wild is my current favourite for next bike but not sure if a mullet set up like this would be more fun all round. Or is the wild still playful enough with full 29? (6ft rider so not so worried about full 29 so long as its not a barge)

The Wild feels slightly more supportive and racey overall (and slightly easier to maneuver as a result) but in terms of fun factor it's a pretty even match. Stay tuned for our eMTB Shootout where we'll have both bikes going head to head, coming up in the next 6 weeks or so.

at 173-174, or 5'8, I found it funny that a guy that's close to 190 cm would opt for the same size as myself; sure, this and the torque are a little on the longer side but, going for an M instead of an XL is uber sandbagging Canyon's sizing..with no reason at so ever; L size would have worked for you very well, considering these are ebikes...and that you are pedaling them up the hill. at 611 tt and you being 190+ with shoes in your feet, you'll constantly hit your handlebars when getting up corners; if you say anything else but that, I call it BS!

I know it might not be strong enough (or packaged right) for ebike purposes, but the shapeshifter was one of the things I really enjoyed about the strive. Climbing efficiency aside, it's a really fun way to liven up trails/the bike when things get flatter and flow-y-er. Kinda a shame it's left out on the ebike, it's what the strive is known for (besides winning), and it's a bit like having two bikes on the trail at once.

Wondering why most reviews so far have described this bike as surprisingly lively, agile, playful, light-feeling, whatever you want to call it. Particularly compared against the Orbea Wild, which on other channels was described as more of a stable, speed, plow, etc. bike. Here the description seems to be the complete opposite, why could this be? I have read that the Strive:ON works much better with less SAG than recommended, but I wonder whether different suspension settings (should) lead to such different interpretations...
@TheLoamWolf

Interesting. We'll be putting the two bikes head-to-head on the same trails in our eBike shootout later this year, so that'll confirm whether these impressions are 100% the case, with the opinion of our whole crew of testers. I (Robert) experimented with more and less sag, and found 28% to be a fairly sweet spot, but regardless of sag, compression and rebound, like-for-like it felt less nimble than the Wild, IMO. Both killer bikes though.

@@TheLoamWolf Thanks for the quick reply. Really interesting indeed, the guys from MBR stated their perfect SAG to be at 27%, so almost identical. Otherwise, I don't see how such different impressions can come about. It must be subjective perception, which is obviously also fine. Anyhow, really looking forward to eBike shootout!
