I've had this monitor for about a week and I'm very pleased with it. Coming from an Acer Predator X34 IPS, it's my first OLED and first HDR screen. I use this monitor for gaming, browsing, movies as well as music production and video editing. I don't find the poorer text clarity compared to non-OLEDs to be a major issue. The difference HDR makes in games is substantial. Bright things in games like flames and headlights actually look like they're emitting light. In HDR I prefer the Peak1000 mode because it makes small highlights pop more than in Trueblack 400, while everything else remains pretty close.

Great review. I bought this monitor a week ago and initially enjoyed it, but had issue with adaptive sync when it's not fully working properly. I suspected the monitor's refresh rate didn't really follow in game's FPS (despite its refresh rate counter displaying it is) resulting in juddering when panning the game around. It was largely noticeable when capping FPS around 90% of monitor's refresh rate e.g. 108 FPS @ 120Hz, 216 FPS @ 240Hz. Furthermore at 240Hz, capping at 60, 80, 120 FPS didn't have juddering as the numbers are divisible from 240Hz. I've already sent my monitor back for warranty, but what still bugged me is whether it's just a bad luck issue or a worldwide issue which could be solved via firmware update.

It seems interesting that they would release these two within the same year, and that they have the same subpixel layout as well. Amazing review! How noticeable is the washing out of colors in HDR for woled vs QD Oled? I want to get an ultra wide to complement my PG32UCDM but the dimness in real scenes bug me in the peak 1000 nits mode. I’m hoping to avoid this with a woled. (worth noting that ASUS recently added more options to combat this and I’m enjoying the Gaming mode’s brightness now so I’m looking for a similar picture level).
@tftcentral
2 ай бұрын
The WOLED just generally look a little less colorful I think. Partly due to washout from the white boost, but that’s only really for low APL scenes and small highlights keep in mind. More generally it’s because of the slightly smaller colour gamut and even a bit from the screen costing finish. Probably more of a consideration I think would be if you mind the steep 800R curvature that the WOLED ultrawide panels have? That’s a lot more than the 1800R of the QD-OLED models

Thank you for the great review. I bought this monitor but have two issues with it. The first one is a clear hardware defect. The monitor shows fragmented parts randomly flashing up. They are randomly distributed around the screen and take about 10% to 40% of the screen in rectangular shapes. So I will have to replace it. Sometimes the monitor runs normally without it happening for 30 min or so but I keeps appearing. The second thing is the one to which I have a question to you. Did you experience any coil whine with this monitor? I have a clearly noticable coil whine/hissing sound while diplaying white, also in non-HDR mode at 70% brightness and 70% contrast. I am very sensitive to such things and also hear an irregular coil whine/hissing when the monitor displays dark. This is very very annoying. @@tftcentral Thank you for the fast answer. I'm using a Clicktronic DP Cable and not the one provided in the box so I thought that should do it. But this is a good point. Maybe a new one would fix this issue. I tried all presets and turned HDR off etc. Even with the brightness and contrast both at 0% I can still hear it hissing irregularly. It is quiter on white screens with both @0% but it is still there.

@schkwiksch maybe try the cable in the box and see if that resolves the artefacts. Not sure what to suggest re the coil whine though I’m afraid

@@tftcentral Just wanted to give you an update. The cable was indeed the problem for the fragmentation. So not a hardware defect of the monitor there. Thank you very much for the hint. Regarding the coil whine/hissing sound: I observed it for some days now. When I turn the monitor on after it was off for a long time I can't hear the hissing sound while sitting infront of it. Only if I put my ear at the back of the monitor it is hearable and constant. If this would stay like that it would not be a problem at all. But after 15 minutes it becomes louder and irregular. After 30 minutes it is so loud (and irregular) that I can hear it clearly from multiple meters away. Unfortunately I am senstitive to such sounds and this one gives me a headache. This is pretty frustrating because the performance of the monitor is great. It would be perfect if it wasn't for this irregular coil whine / hissing sound which makes it not useable for me. I don't know if this is bad luck with the one I have or normal with this kind of technology. Maybe I should try another one and hope that it does not show this problem.

Is it worth getting any of these monitors with the 1st Gen Pixel Layout? I keep seeing it listed as a negative. I purchased thee LG39 inch OLED and I can't tell if the lower PPI is causing the text fringing and minor blur or if it is the 1st Gen Pixel Layout. Still have a little bit before deciding if I want to return it.
@tftcentral
2 ай бұрын
It’s probably a combination of both the unusual pixel layout and the low pixel density. Note that the 39” models are using WOLED panels as opposed to QDOLED and overall I think those show more fringing and text clarity problems, even where the screen size is the same. So you’d see some improvements moving to a smaller screen with higher density, and also to a QDOLED panel I think

@@tftcentral I am going to be returning the LG39 inch today. I really enjoyed the product height and curve and will miss it. Do you think the MSI MPG 341CQPX is a good purchase to fill the gap? I will be using it for work and gaming. I think I would get at least 10-12 extra PPI going to a 34 inch 1440 OLED.

I would like to switch from the Asus PG27AQDM to this one because of the 21:9. Is it worth it? I tested the Alienware. But I returned it because of the beeping and the fan. But does the monitor still get Gsync or does it work or how does it work on an NVIDIA card?

@Solidd_24 that’s the same gen 2 panel as this MSI screen. If you’re after a 240Hz ultrawide OLED I’d recommend the MSI in this video. If you don’t mind a lower 175Hz refresh rate then their MAG 341CQP will save you a bit of money and is largely the same otherwise

I on the other hand personally enjoy higher refresh rate even if I'm not playing competitively. 120Hz is smooth enough yes, but 240Hz is noticeably better. Regardless a higher resolution monitor is planned on its roadmap.

Many people find video reviews extremely helpful for evaluating monitors. They provide a dynamic way to see the monitor in action, showcase details, and offer visual comparisons that text alone can't achieve. Plus, it's easier for many to consume content this way. If you prefer written reviews, that's great-there are plenty out there for you!
