@@chrishale1345 not all have natural tails. Many people manipulate their tails to make them "fancier."

@@davisstories4974 That's already known but Saddlebreds are most known for having a seriously hollow back due to the type of gaits and the way they're ridden.

You are incorrect. Saddlebreds do not get a sway back from saddleseat. There is a genetic trait that some are born with called lordosis. Not all have it and saddlebreds cannot develop one from saddleseat. Saddlebred are not known for having sway backs, they are known for having motion in their front end and for carrying American generals during the revolutionary and civil war. Please do not comment on things you are uneducated about. If you have questions please reach out to the ASHA. @@ihavenoideawhatimdoingwith4240t

The rack is much faster than the slow gait. Keep your horse collected and let him RACK ON! Very exciting!

slow gait comes first the the rack which is a lot faster. Look for the motion the horse has in all gates.

Tator Kator no their the same the ract is just faster
The footfall pattern is the same, and if the only difference between rack and slow gait is the speed, the American Saddlebred horse is only four-gaited. The Icelandic pony is the only five-gaited breed worldwide as far as I am informed: walk, trot, canter, running walk and pace.

Could someone please explain to me the difference between the Slow Gait, the Rack and the Running Walk? I can't tell the difference yet!
@poniesandlife

pokemon7maniac This is not the best example as he doesn't have any shows on. But the slow gait has more closely tied lateral pairs so the two left legs hit closer together and the two right legs do, as well as it being slower. The rack has 4 evenly spaced beats and is quite quick. And the running walk is performed my the Tennessee walking horse but has the same footfall pattern.

Your "slow gait" in this video was actually a pace and your "rack" was actually mostly a pace, occasionally broken into a four-beat movement, but not by much. A "slow gait" is actually a slow version of the rack and the rack is a four beat gait, NOT a pace. That is why at the shows they will ask for a "sloooow gait your horses, please, slow gait!", followed by "RACK ON!!!!!", telling the riders to speed the horses up to rack speed. They are the same gait, just different speeds.

Umm the rack could have been a bit faster but that is a slow gait, the horse also could have been older

I'm so late on this. Like 4 years late now, but whatever. I just came from a video posted in 2017 and it was on a horse walking thing. (Idk the terms, I know it wasn't a race or talent show, they just walked and trotted, etc.) And people were saying during that the horse's step was unnatural and very high compared to normal horses stepping and calling it abuse. But then I saw other people saying that the "high stip" or whatever it is called was actually natural and those calling it abuse was comparing the Saddlebred to other horses who don't have the natural high, light-stepping. If you understood this comment, could you further explain this? Like- further educate me on this type of horse and if its stepping is more natural when it comes to like, it's hoofs being "lifted".

The american saddlebred is born and bred to have this very natural gait. Search for icelandics, paso finos and argeidenbergers if you would like to see more. The problem is that proper show horses are often treated with cruelty to have very high stepping and unnatural movements. Chemicals can for example be inserted into the hoof or on the hoof so that the pain makes him step higher. Weighted shoes and harsh bits are the most common source of cruelty in the gaited horse community. I myself am more into icelandics because of the more or less cruelty free community.

Your girth is way too far forward and a bit too loose. You can never get proper confirmation unless the horse gets his/her own proper movement first. S/he is the one doing all the work!
