Hey, I'm Ethan. The big green dude that is in this video at 5:41, 12:19 and a few other times. Did you reach out to Doug or the others asking for interviews or any of the other contestants. I sort of went heavy into the background information of Episodes 5,6, and 7 in the comment sections of those episodes. I was also in one of the untold amount of pilots that was filmed. I wouldn't have minded talking about what went on behind the scenes and actually explained some things you sort of glossed over.

I think the Critic's intro (and I could be wrong) also took partially from Remote Control, in that some guy started his own game show. That could just be my vibe though.

I stayed away from Pop Quiz Hotshot during its original run because I kept hearing behind-the-scenes tiffs and differences were seriously affecting the quality of the show. Glad to see that doesn't really seem to be the case. I likewise have a mixed opinion regarding the dark comedy elements, but that is the Critic's calling card and some of those jokes are pretty darn funny (that Vader Spazzy had me in stitches!). I'll definitely have to check the show out on my own time. Thanks for sharing, Reviewer, and looking forward to the next twist in time!

"They filmed untold amounts of test episodes and I'm gonna assume this was their best example." Actually, based on an article I've found ( nerdnumbers.com/2015/05/19/behind-the-scenes-from-a-contestant-on-pop-quiz-hot-shot/ ), it wasn't. Subsequent episodes with Brad made the minigames worth points, didn't allow players to buzz in until Brad finished reading the question, and deducted 1 point for a wrong answer (right answers now awarded 1 point, and the minigames were worth 4 each). Episodes were being taped as late as April 2015 ( thegiddyowl.wordpress.com/2015/04/14/pop-quiz-hotshot-mini-update/ ), including one where the General hosted, but for whatever reason they opted to scrap all of them in favor of the Critic's version. A shame, too, since I like Brad *far* more than the Critic and thought he was the only thing that made the pilot tolerable.
@Kuchiri

The reason why the Brad Episodes were mostly scrapped was because of lost audio due to the fact the mics that was on our stands were not really great... any time anyone tapped the podium it actually was heard in the mic cutting out anything anyone said. That and slapping the button (Which were staple buttons) did the same thing. There's the reason why in the Critic episodes we all wore our mics.

I only checked out an episode or two of PQHS, but I thought it was something with potential that just wasn't executed quite as well as it could have been. Still, it was impressive enough that it actually got produced in the first place. Nice to see you back to making semi-regular content, though, GSR. If I could bring up a personal wish, I'd love to see you cover the You Don't Know Jack game show that ABC ran for only a month back in 2001. I remember watching some of it back then & thought it was interesting. Hell, maybe I should try reviewing it myself via my blog. It was only six episodes & all of it's on KZitem, after all.

This was shit, UTTER FUCKING SHIT! This was a scheme to embezzle 90K from their viewers who where stupid enough to shell out their money to these scam artists. They hopefully will get fucking sued over that shit at some point, also they stole 95 percent of the "jokes" from You Don't Know Jack. Channel Awesome? More like Channel Pathetic.

I have to say, I think you missed a trick here in the narrative. You should have kept the old Sarah and used the old clips. But then had new Sarah when you came back, without acknowledging any difference. It opens up a potential storyline, even if you wind up never using it. But, even then, you can make winking nods to the camera. Like maybe at the end, instead of just mentioning the headache, you could mention "and everything sounded lower pitched for a while," in reference to the new Sarah's lower voice.

Oh rats...that is a MUCH better gag to use. I've actually heard of something like that being used before, in one instance on a soap opera (I forget which one), two characters hug each other in the scene. Prior to the hug, 1 actress is playing one character. During the hug, only close ups on the second character. After the hug, new actress playing the first character for the rest of the show.

I actually enjoyed the trivia sections of Pop Quiz Hotshot, but the Physical Challenges and Spazzies can get annoying. One thing that I really wish they'd do with the set is get some brighter lights. It looks like they forgot to pay the electric bill.

Also, the previous Sarah seemed really familiar. Has she acted in anything else online? Also, I wonder how many people assume you're dating these actresses, and get a new one after a breakup.

Question 1. As far as I know, she hasn't acted in any thing online before or since. Question 2. Hmm...I'm pretty sure people have speculated about that before. However, I can dispel that theory and honestly say I have never dated any actress to play Sarah on this show. Normally I keep personal details of anyone on this show under lock and key, but in this instance, I see no harm. Glad you're enjoying the show!

From what I saw of Pop Quiz Hotshot, the show seems to be simultaneously limiting itself to television conventions for game shows while at the same time trying to stuff far too many elements of 80's and early 90's game shows into a single package. I think if and when Doug decides to make more episodes, he should limit or outright remove Spazzy usage, only have a single physical challenge at the beginning of the show at most and have it give points to the winner, take a few of the criticisms from this review to try to make production much smoother, scale back the costume punishment a bit and add some other punishments to keep it fresh, and take a couple cues from the Midnight game show on Comedy Central to try to keep the pacing and comedy fresh. Speaking of, there's a good 5 Minute Review for the future, Comedy Central's Midnight seems to be quite polarizing as I've met just as many people who like it as those who hate it. I think it's a decent show that has its moments, but I rarely sit through an entire episode and usually watch clips of it.
@dukespubber741
7 жыл бұрын
Actually, the Spazzies are only in the intro and the midpoint, nowhere else. Limiting them any further would be getting rid of them altogether (which I would prefer). There's also only one physical challenge. There was two in the pilot, but only one in the main show. And the reason there seems to be a lack of focus on the show is because there is. The show exists because Channel Awesome CEO Mike Michaud wanted to make a game show but didn't give any other details than that. The guy who does the set design for normal Nostalgia Critic reviews was told to make a set in a week, but since he didn't know what kind of game show they were making, had to make it as generic as possible. It doesn't help that it's filmed in the big open warehouse studio with lots of echo, instead of the main studio or a more closed off set.
@DurradonXylles
7 жыл бұрын
Duke Spubber Then it sounds like they need to retool the entire show so it's better focused and be more entertaining as a result. I like the concept of it, but it only needs one or two gimmicks to stand out like the 80's game shows it's trying capture the feel of.
@dukespubber741
7 жыл бұрын
DurradonXylles They've said it's going to come back, but since most of the production members are busy with Nostalgia Critic, it's been put on the back burner. The last episode was months and months ago. Hell, the set is mostly used for Awesome Comics nowadays.
